Checking Out Bike Storage in 6 Different Winnebagos!
The Fit RV

James and I just wrapped up our time at Sea Otter Classic bicycle festival, outside Monterey California. It’s one of our favorite events of the year, and as always we had a great time. Since Winnebago is one of the event sponsors, they had 6 of their most bicycle-friendly RVs on display in a booth on the fest grounds. We thought it was the perfect opportunity to livestream a walkthrough of all 6 RVs and then compare how the bikes would get stored in each. So, we went live from the booth on Saturday and did just that! If you missed it, you can still watch it here:    The 6 RVs that were o ..read more

How To Fix the RV Plumbing Leak from Vinyl Tubing
The Fit RV
by James
2d ago
Every RV we’ve ever had has flexible vinyl tubing someplace in it’s plumbing system.  But when that tubing is connected with standard PEX fittings, it’s almost guaranteed to eventually leak. In this video, I take you through a way to fix it: properly, and with off-the-shelf parts.  Check it out and save yourself a headache or two!    I’ve never come across an RV that didn’t have at least a little bit of vinyl tubing somewhere in its plumbing system.  There are a number of good reasons why manufacturers use it. The vinyl tubing can safely handle tighter bends than PEX will ..read more

The Americanizer is Patented! James is a Podcast Guest!

3 years ago, James posted a YouTube video where he shared a cassette toilet adapter he was working on — anyone remember that? We wanted a solution so we could dump our new RV’s cassette toilet into a regular dump station, without having to see, smell, or risk any contact with the contents. Years before that, I had vowed we’d never own an RV with a cassette. We had tested out a cassette-toilet-like Porta-pottie back in 2017 and were traumatized by the dumping experience— all captured in a video where we were comparing our compost toilet to the porta-pottie, anyone remember that one?! And then s ..read more

RV Basics: Slide-Outs – Different Types & How To Maintain
The Fit RV
by Stefany
1M ago
I need to start with this confession: In our 14 years as RVers, Stef and I have never owned an RV with a slide.  Since the vast majority of RVs today are made with slides, this puts us in the minority. There are a few reasons for that, but one of the main one has to do with maintenance.  I perceived RV slide-out rooms as another lengthy maintenance chore that would likely require several new tools, a few new products, tedious adjustments, and – mostly – time. Perhaps I’ve mellowed with age (I’d bet Stef disagrees), but recently I began wondering if I had been hasty in my judgement of ..read more

Winnebago Power – Comparing it to Our 20k Electrical System
The Fit RV
by James

If you’ve followed us for a while, you probably know that I installed a rockin’ 20,000 Watt-Hour electrical system in our Number one a few years ago.  And if you watched our video last week, then you also know that Winnebago’s new Revel includes their PowerMax electrical system, which is also pretty cool.  So when Winnebago asked us to help explain their Winnebago Power architecture, I couldn’t resist comparing it to our own 20k system.  How do they stack up?  Watch the video!    I love our 20k system, and I have complete confidence in it because I built it out myself ..read more

The 2025 Revel: In-Depth Conversation with Winnebago’s Product Manager
The Fit RV

After our last, and admittedly whimsical, 2025 Revel video, we felt like we should do something a little more meaty.  So we did.  We sat down with Chris Bienert, Winnebago’s product manager for the Revel, to get a bit more insight into some of its features.  Here you go!   How did we get here?  Well, while filming our Revel footage, it occurred to me that much of what makes it truly unique is a set of features that you might miss on a regular walk-through.  You’d miss them because there’s simply not much to *show* in a traditional video.  And since there are ..read more

Welcome to the sixth installment of the RV Basics series! Woo Hoo! In this one, we’ll get into the very basics of solar power.  This one starts off by explaining the basic components required to make RV solar work, and it wraps up with a super fun way to figure out how much solar power you might need on your RV.  Like the rest of the videos in this series, this one comes in at an entry level, so there’s no previous solar experience required.  Check it out!   This series of videos is sponsored by Winnebago, and we’re proud to be partnered with them to bring this to you. But do you really know what you should be doing to keep it healthy? It’s all too easy to have misconceptions based on faulty assumptions, outdated research, and plain old wishful thinking.
