CHRISTMAS PAGEANT PRACTICE
The Presbyterian Church at Woodbury

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2023 IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING WORSHIP For many churches, a children’s Christmas pageant has been an annual tradition for generations. These pageants run the gamut from small Sunday school programs to Broadway-type productions with live camels and donkeys. At the heart of them all, however, is our faith in the Incarnation; that God took on human flesh and was born as a baby and came and dwelt among us. We often think of the story around the birth of Christ as part of God’s unfolding plan — something that had been waiting to happen for a long, long time. We may need to remember ..read more

Rediscovering the Significance of Christmas
The Presbyterian Church at Woodbury
by Phil Oehler

His parents gave him the name Jesus. But the prophets, the shepherds, the wise men, and the angels addressed him by other names. They called him Lord, Messiah, Savior, Emmanuel, Light of the World, and Word Made Flesh. In Incarnation: Rediscovering the Significance of Christmas, best-selling author Adam Hamilton examines the names of Christ used by the gospel writers, exploring the historical and personal significance of his birth. This Advent season church families will come together to remember what’s important. In the face of uncertainty and conflict, Christians reclaim the Christ Child who ..read more

From the Pastor

In Advent we expectantly wait for the One who has already come. We anticipate the promised justice of God’s new world, yet we praise God who raised the “righteous branch” to rule with justice and righteousness. We hope for the restoration of the afflicted, the tormented, and the grieving, yet we delight that healing has come in Christ. We long for the beating of swords into plowshares, yet we rejoice that the Prince of Peace has appeared. We yearn for the barren deserts of our inner cities to flourish, yet we laud the desert Rose that has bloomed. We dream of the land where lions and lambs liv ..read more

FROM THE PASTOR…
The Presbyterian Church at Woodbury

“The Lord’s Supper is the sign and seal of eating and drinking in communion with the crucified and risen Lord. During his earthly ministry Jesus shared meals with his followers as a sign of community and acceptance and as an occasion for his own ministry” (Book of Order, W-2.4001a). The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper is a significant part of our life together as the body of Christ. As we move into a new liturgical year with the start of Advent, we will be returning to a familiar way of serving communion and adding another method for receiving this sacrament. The Session has approved altering h ..read more
