Be Proud of your caring role and the incredible support you provide to your loved ones – that is the message Carers’ Resource wants young carers to remember this Young Carers Action Day (YCAD).
YCAD takes place on March 13 and is organised each year by national charity Carers Trust to raise awareness of young carers and young adult carers, the challenges they face and the support they need.

A new Selby district parent carer group set up by local charity Carers’ Resource had its first get-together recently.
Parent carers from the Selby area came along to the event on Tuesday, 20th February at Summit Indoor Adventure, on Scott Road, Selby, where they met and spoke to other parent carers, asked questions, took some time out and had a brew.
It followed a successful launch event held for the group at the end of November last year.

It has been a busy and fun-packed winter for the Men Care Too project, run by Carers’ Resource, with male carers enjoying woodworking sessions, a campfire event, clay pigeon shooting, games nights and more.
One group got into the swing of things at an indoor golfing event at Rudding Park in Harrogate. As well as practicing their swing on a golf simulator, the carers had bacon butties and hot drinks.
Friendly and informal games nights were held at St Peter’s Church, in Moorhead Lane, Shipley, which were a chance for male carers to meet and chat, while playing snooker, table tennis and darts.

Carers’ Resource is inviting parent carers in the Selby area to its new group, following a successful launch event recently.
The charity has set up a new Selby district parent carer group, which will meet every two weeks on a Tuesday, 10am – 11.30am, at Summit Indoor Adventure, on Scott Road, Selby, with the first get-together taking place on 20th February, 2024.

Carers, their loved ones and volunteers from our Carers’ Time Off service were treated to a fun-filled festive party at Ripon Grammar School (RGS).
Organised by sixth form volunteers at the school, the event was held to give hard-working carers and the people they care for a break from their normal routine.
More than 40 teenagers served up a delicious afternoon tea and enjoyed chatting with guests.
The school’s Chamber Choir provided entertainment, with everyone joining in Christmas carols, while one Carers’ Resource volunteer, Charles Jeans, had the whole room singing along to A Teenager in L ..read more

Harrogate-based charity Carers’ Resource has recently launched a new group for carers in the Harrogate District who are supporting someone over 16 with a mental health issue.
The group, which began in October, meets on the second Friday of every month, 10am – 12noon, at the charity’s Harrogate office (Unit 3, Grove Park Court, Grove Park Terrace, Harrogate, HG1 4DP). The next get-together is on 12th January.
Carers can have a cup of tea and meet and chat with others in the area who are in a similar situation to themselves.

Unpaid carers shared their stories, challenges, and hopes for the future, at events marking Carers Rights Day in Bradford, Harrogate, Craven and Selby.
People who look after their relatives or friends were asked: “What are the biggest challenges for you as a carer?” and “What would make your life as a carer easier?”
Carers’ Resource held events at its offices in Skipton, Harrogate and Shipley, and at the Selby Carers Coffee Morning, as part of the national Carers Rights Day.

Campfires, bushcraft, music, walks, games and good food are on offer for male carers in the next few months.
Local charity Carers’ Resource is running a number of exciting activities as part of its Men Care Too project for male carers who live in the Bradford, Craven, Harrogate and Selby areas.
All Men Care Too events are free for male carers registered with Carers’ Resource.
If you’re a man, looking after somebody, these activities are a chance for you to take a break from your caring responsibilities and meet other male carers.
