Thanks to James for help with this post.
The British Long Distance and the British Relay Championships were held in the North East this year. A small but hardy contingent of SLOW members made the trip up to Whitby and around for a fine weekend of orienteering.
Long Distance Champs
Eleven SLOW runners completed the long distance champs, all agreeing with the coordinator’s interview comments and being exhausted but happy enough crossing the line. The courses were as expected tough, involving extensive use of the terrain across the Mulgrave Woods site to test the runners. Winning times were highe ..read more

Over 100 people turned up to the Wandsworth Street-O. It was a fantastic event and there was a great buzz in the pub afterwards. Rebecca planned a tricky course making the most of the railway lines and hills. The hills seemed to catch people out with approximately 30% of people were late back!
Thank you to all the helpers who made the event run so smoothly.

Thank you to Todd and Tessa for planning and organising the event and to all the on-the-day helpers who made it happen. The event gave made great use of the hills to the north and brought us around some lovely houses. The venue Bohemia House was a good choice with lots of space to spread out in. Many participants sampled the Czech beer after their run!
Well done to everyone to came along. Do come along to the next event in Wandsworth if you enjoyed today!

Chris Morris in 1977 Edited by David May
Tribute by Peter Haines of Airienteers
Chris Morris was one of those people in life that you encounter very rarely, but who create a profound opportunity for the possibilities of enriching your life with challenging enjoyable experiences.
On leaving school, he went up to Oxford University to study Physics, but quit before graduating to follow his real calling as a creative photographer in London. He arrived just as the old post-war society was changing by a youth-driven cultural revolution with modernity, protest and hedonism at its centre. Swinging Lo ..read more

Official’s Comments
Firstly a big thanks to all those who helped me put on the event – Steve, Gordon, Eloise, Duncan, Pete, Kieran and Jason. Thanks also to the Wimbledon Common rangers for allowing us to hold the event and to the Crooked Billet for, as a few times before, affording us a great space at the back of the pub to informally take-over for the night plus serving great food and drink.

London Orienteering Klubb organised a great event in Kingsbury. Results are on their website: results. It was very high scoring event, with Simon Wright getting a whopping 850 points.
Series results after race 5 is now available. Simon leads the series for the first time and Eleanor Broughton still leading woman. Plenty can change in the series as it’s the best five scores to count.
The next Street-O event is Tuesday 12th March around West Hampstead. Lots of transport options and the venue is great (so stick around for the social afterwards). See you there ..read more
