The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has made it mandatory for licensed banks and licensed financial companies to maintain an unique identification number for customers when opening deposit accounts. The Central Bank issued the directives under the Banking Act No. 30 of 1988 and the Finance Business Act, No. 42 of 2011. Two new police divisions named Matara Crime Division (MCD) and Galle Crime Division (GCD) have been set up in the Southern Province. Police said the MCD will focus on tackling crimes in Matara and Hambantota Districts while the GCD will assign officers to tackle crimes in Galle District.
