THE FLATS – In search of the 20th conference championship in program history, Georgia Tech’s golf team begins post-season competition this weekend with the 70th Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golf Championship, which will be conducted Friday through Monday (April 19-22) at Charlotte Country Club in Charlotte, N.C. The Yellow Jackets have captured 11 of the last 17 championships, most recently winning the 2023 title at the Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst, N.C. THE FLATS – Georgia Tech’s Christo Lamprecht missed his goal of being the low amateur at the Masters Friday after carding a 6-over-par 78 in the second round. The 6-foot-8 senior, who began the day tied for 48th, made two birdies in his first three holes, but a string of five bogeys in his next six holes put him below the cutline. While the field dealt with wind gusts reaching 40 miles per hour at times, Lamprecht made one more birdie at 10, followed with three straight pars, but then made bogey at 14, 16 and 17 to leave himself at 8-over-par, two strokes below the cut line. THE FLATS – Georgia Tech’s Christo Lamprecht played an impressive opening nine holes in his debut round at the Masters Tournament Thursday, getting to 3-under-par through his first eight holes. But he gave the strokes back with consecutive birdies at 9-10-11. He birdied the par-5 13th hole to get back into red figures, but made triple-bogey at the par-5 15th after spinning his approach shot off the green and into the water fronting the green. HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Kennesaw State thrived in round three to stand alone atop the 2024 ASUN Women’s Golf Championship field to collect the program’s sixth conference title Wednesday evening. The win marks the first ASUN Championship claim in the Erin Thorne era and the first tournament or invitational win of the season for the Owls. MARICOPA, Ariz. – The Kennesaw State men’s golf team finished 14th at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at the AK-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course on Tuesday. Play was halted during the second round due to lightning on Monday evening. The second round was completed and the final round was played in its entirety on Tuesday. MEMPHIS, Ten. — After posting back-to-back tournament victories in their two most recent tournaments, the No. 3 Oglethorpe men’s golf team continued its stretch of high-level play with a runner-up finish Monday and Tuesday at the Cochran Collegiate.
