We are just a few days into Women’s History month, a time to pay reverence to all the incredible women, trans women and nonbinary femmes in our industry. Our industry unfortunately is no different than all the others – far too often across the board, there are a multitude of glass ceilings causing incredible inequities for so many important people in our community. If we don`t talk about these things out loud, we will never push forward on our path for real change. While March 8th is officially International Women’s Day, we should be celebrating the history and accomplishments of all our incr ..read more

As Black History Month wraps up, the CPBA would be remiss if it didn’t introduce you to Marie Marguerite Rose (1715-1757); the first Black woman on record to own and operate a tavern in what we now know as Canada. Rose was born in 1715 in Guinea, West Africa, but then kidnapped as a teenager and taken to Île Royale, the French settlement now known as Cape Breton, Nova Scotia [Unama’ki], where she was baptized and given the Christian name Marie Marguerite. In 1736, she was sold into enslavement to a French military officer and merchant. In 1755, she was emancipated and went on to marry Jean Ba ..read more

From our good friend Jon Gray: I’m VERY excited to announce this series of virtual distillery tours that I’ve built with the help of some fantastic people and some of my absolute favourite agave spirit brands. The original intent was to offer people the ability to leave their homes during lockdown, albeit virtually, to experience and discover something and somewhere brand new to them. So I reached out to some of the brands that have had the biggest impact on me personally, and this is what we all managed to put together! Each week for the next six weeks I’ll be live streaming with the people b ..read more
