Hello everybody, I have been thinking about starting a mobile bartending business. My girlfriend and I have both been bartenders for years and I think this would be great for us. In my state you do not need a liquor license as long as the client is providing the alcohol. I have seen "dry bar" horse trailers and such be redone for relatively cheap. Would we be better to go after something like that or just buy a portable bar? I know I would still need to start an LLC and get insurance. What is the best and most profitable audience? best ways to market & get started? Any tips & tricks o ..read more

Is 8$ an hour plus tips worth the drive?

If this isn't allowed here mods please delete So, I am trying to find a second job for a multitude of reasons, (saving up for a surgery I need, to be able to afford all my expenses each month, to move and to gain the experience I need to transfer fields (bartending and personal training) when I move), I'm looking for a bartender position and the only one around only pays 8$ an hour (plus tips of course) and is about a half hour drive from my house. I'm trying to figure out if this is worth the drive and everything. Closest bar is a ten minute drive but they aren't hiring, next closest is 20 m ..read more

If you have plantar fasciitis, what shoes do you wear to work?

I’m 22(F), and this past year I’ve had pretty bad plantar fasciitis. I’ve been to the ortho plenty of times and stretching really helps, however I haven’t done a job that required me standing for me than 8 hrs/day since before I got feet-ouchy problems. Im worried that when I start my first official shift in 2 weeks, I’ll be absolutely miserable. Are there any brands/specific shoes that saved your sanity behind the bar? submitted by /u/peechycleen [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Body hair behind the bar

Wondering everyone’s stance and even the legality of having your armpits on display at work. The bar I work at is very accepting of all forms of humans but one of our female bartenders has INCREDIBLY long armpit hair (more so than most men) and customers have privately voiced concerns about it. Is it considered unsanitary to wear a tank top to work? I’m absolutely 100% supportive of not shaving if that’s your desire but is it appropriate for a bar/food setting while wearing a tank top? submitted by /u/psychonautkittyy [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Sorry this is so long, it’s fine if you don’t read it. But this is what happened : I 25F, landed my first bartending job about a year & a half ago. It was good while it lasted, til it wasn’t. A lot of unprofessional shit was happening at my job including me & other co workers being put in a very dangerous situation with a customer where cops were called & our saftey was at risk. Our boss fired us that night for not finishing our shift after giving us the option to stay & finish the shift or leave. Long story short we left because the cops never actually showed up & we told ..read more

If your first question walking into a venue is "are you guys still open?"

There's a 90% chance you should just turn around and walk out without opening your mouth. Chairs all flipped, drip tray sitting on the taps, a sign on the bar literally saying that we are closed, yet you still have to ask? The lack of common sense after 12 years still fucking astounds me. submitted by /u/beartaxexpress [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Horrible GM

I’m lead bartender at a small town bar in Ohio. We have amazing, experienced FOH and BOH employees. In August, the owner hired a general manager. I do the FOH scheduling, ordering, create the menus, do all of the setup on the POS and am constantly on call. The kitchen manager does pretty much the equivalent but back of house. The GM does payroll, book entertainment and does the lottery. She doesn’t do anything extra. She just sits at the end of the bar and eats all day. When she was hired, the owner offered her some sort of bonus based off of profits of the business. (Unsure of actual numbers ..read more

Guests order a martini, but really don't want a martini

I've noticed a trend in the not so classy area that I work in. One bar is a trendy sushi restaurant with cocktail bar. The other is a casual bar in a kid friendly entertainment center for the affluent. Guests order a martini, 90% of the time titos. When I reach to add the vermouth they either respond "what is that?!" Or "no, don't put that in there." Sometimes they'll order it dirty but overwhelmingly the "martinis" I make are just chilled vodka doubles In a wine glass. Is this common? submitted by /u/cultureconneiseur [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Original Post here https://www.reddit.com/r/bartenders/s/oiB3506F8c where I was so excited and grateful to land a job with the bar next door. Then the OWNER texts me this today. Notice how at the top he says “Come in for TRAINING” And now it’s there’s two girls with interviews ahead of you all because the GM says so. Whatever. Never getting excited about anything again. Ratios of a filthy dirty martini

Seems like everyone I serve has a different definition of "filthy", but don't know the actual measurements they want. When I hear filthy, I usually do 2oz vodka, 1/4oz vermouth, and 3/4oz olive brine. How about all of you? submitted by /u/RadioEditVersion [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
