These Divas are suckers for a good plate of pasta (and for vodka)! And we love entertaining, the more visitors, the merrier. Especially hungry men whom the Divas just want to satiate. But sometimes you end up with more house guests than you initially planned and you need to improvise and make something quick, but most definitely delicious. Our Barilla Rigatoni with Pancetta in a Tomato Vodka Sauce is one of those recipes! God knows we always have vodka on hand… There is a trick to making this simple recipe absolutely divine. Use Barilla pasta, in this case, rigatoni, and always use San Marzan ..read more

The perfect platter for holiday party pot lucks!

The holidays are all about family, friends, and having fun!  But the one thing we don’t have a lot of is time.  That’s why when we have last minute guests over, one of the easiest things to put together is a cheese and charcuterie platter (with plenty of wine, of course). But we like to throw in a little healthy protein too – plus not everyone’s a meat eater, so Burnbrae Farms’ EGGS2Go are a perfect addition! Photo Credit: David Major-Lapierre EGGS2Go save so much time, and we could all use a little extra time during the holidays!  The eggs are already cooked and peeled f ..read more

Le Blossom Bar

Maybe it’s because we’re in our thirties, but we adore a comfortable bar, with mood setting chill tunes, fabulous cocktails, and a few bites for when we’re feeling peckish. We love a restaurant or bar that doesn’t look like all the rest, and we’re tired of supper clubs and wearing the tightest dresses, and the highest heels only to have to lower our expectations when we walk through the door. In our thirties, we’d rather spend a little more to get a little more, but Blossom Bar is a gem because you don’t have to spend more to get more. This sake bar blossomed in The Village, and we literally ..read more

If you’ve reached your 15th anniversary in Montreal’s restaurant industry, you’re definitely doing something right! Verses restaurant, part of the Antonopoulos Group is situated below Hotel Nelligan on Saint Paul Ouest in Old Montreal.  Their dining room had a makeover, giving Verses  a fresh, new look, and they held a media night to celebrate their 15-year milestone. We didn’t even like Jack Daniel’s… until now!

True story, we don’t like brown liquor. Well that isn’t completely true, but we’re picky about brown booze. Don’t get us wrong, we love a well-made old fashioned, but our love of brown liquor tends to end there. Jack Daniels and Diva #1 have a tumultuous relationship that began as quickly as it ended during a Halloween party in 2003 that ended in her vomiting on herself in a bathtub. Jack Daniel’s was her first hard liquor, and he taught her a valuable lesson about drinking in moderation. If you live in the Rosemont-Petite Patrie neighbourhood of Montreal, consider yourselves lucky!  The team behind one of Montreal’s most beloved brunch spots, Ma’tine, is back with Bistro Rosie. “Toast champi, oeuf poché, cresson, cheddar” Located on Belanger street, you’re likely to walk right by the new restaurant, as there is no sign advertising the restaurant.  Jérémy Daniel-Six and Sophie Duchastel de Montrouge have made headlines because this is one of Montreal’s first no-tip restaurants but we can confidently tell you that the reason Bistro Rosie will make headlines is becaus ..read more

Fieldstone is a restaurant with a minimalistic décor that offers unique dishes using local ingredients. This Mile End restaurant hasn’t been open very long and has already created a name for itself with its brunch. Now open for dinner, they’re trying out a North American menu touching on the background and experience of the chef in that melting pot fashion that Montreal restaurants are known for. We started our adventure with dumplings as an amuse bouche. Not your typical dumplings though, at Fieldstone they were stuffed with cactus, kimchi and hot peppers. Stuffed perfectly, and fried so tha ..read more

Speakeasies have a certain allure to them.  A speakeasy offers something a little more refined, a chance to disappear in a bar hidden away from the usual hustle and bustle of the Montreal bar scene. Often speakeasies include delicious specialty cocktails, or a refinement of traditional cocktails. Sometimes their cocktails have exotic ingredients, but they almost always have an atmosphere that simply draws you in. Gokudo means “one path” in Japanese and the team behind this speakeasy are definitely on the right one!  They also own Escondite, Biiru, Habanera, and Koa Lua, all in the s ..read more

What do you know about ramen? We don’t like to brag, but we’re kinda Montreal ramen experts. Okay now we’re bragging,  we aren’t experts but we do love ramen! Imagine our excitement when we found out that the Mile End was getting their own ramen restaurant? Tsukuyomi is a traditional ramen restaurant that makes their own tonkotsu broth. Restaurants that make their own tonkotsu broth used to be a rarity in Montreal, but recently they’ve been trending! “Chashu Tonkotsu: pork bone broth + braised pork + egg + Nori + spinach” 13$ “Mini Chashu Don: braised pork on top of rice” 6$ Everything ..read more

“Carnivore friendly” is not something that you hear very often! Since dipping into vegetarianism is trending, so are vegetarian restaurants. Santa Barbara is a little different, they are not exclusively vegetarian but that’s the main theme, with a few meaty options that sneak onto their menu every now and then. Montreal has quite a few “vegetarian friendly” restaurants, meaning that you can bring along that pesky vegetarian friend for a bite. Santa Barbara returns the favour to that pesky carnivore amongst the vegetarians, by having a “carnivore friendly” restaurant. “Pierogies: sage, garlic ..read more
