Gregory Girgis was killed as he was walking north on University Ave at Wellington St at 11:40 pm on Canada Day 2022 when he was struck by a westbound jeep driven by Nitan Thakur. Thakur was driving at 129 km/hr just 2 seconds before impact, impaired, and ran a red light colliding with two northbound vehicles. 5 others were also injured including a 32 year old pedestrian who had to have half his leg amputated.

Today my class had a field trip to the Superior Court of Justice located at 361 University Ave. We watched many trials (murder, assault, firearms) but the main one that we had even discussed prior to the trip was R. v. Zameer. Not much happened (productivity wise) as it was almost entirely just an overview of the case and instructions to the jury on how to proceed. However, my class was almost split half and half prior to the trip when reading the articles about this case, on whether or not he should be convicted. This early morning an Instructor and a Dispatcher at Wilson found a stray pup, and “hired” them for the day until animal services could retrieve them. The pupper has now been registered and checked out, and the Dispatcher is fostering them while awaiting their owner to be located!
