Los Angeles is truly a vegan paradise. It’s right up there next to New York City as the most vegan-friendly city in the country. (Of course, Portland is high on that list too.) You can spend several days hopping from one vegan restaurant to another, and you’ll still have barely even covered LA’s vegan scene. On my last visit, I stayed with a friend at the Miracle Mile, not far from Fairfax District, Melrose, and West Hollywood, where many of the hottest vegan restaurants are located. It is possible to get around LA without a car and even explore entirely on foot like I did for a good portion o ..read more

On my last international trip before the pandemic hit, I visited family in Singapore before vacationing in Bali. I found plenty of delicious vegan and vegetarian restaurants in both cities, but I never got around to compiling a list of the restaurants I visited in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. Since that vacation was especially memorable and Ubud, which is widely known as a wellness destination and arts and culture center, offers plenty for vegans and vegetarians, I decided to *finally* gather my photos and notes together in one place. This list of vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants from my week l ..read more

Try this hearts of palm vegan crab cakes recipe with Old Bay, corn, and celery. Crispy golden on the outside, moist and flaky on the inside. Crab cakes are one of my favorite late summer dishes. Ever since I went vegan a few years ago, I’ve been on the search for a crab-less alternative that I enjoy just as a much as the original. I’ve come across many variations of vegan crab cakes at restaurants and grocery stores, made of ingredients from soy meat to jackfruit to artichoke hearts. There are many approaches to vegan crab cakes, but my preferred crab substitute is hearts of palm. Harvested f ..read more

Last December, over silky chanterelle soup and a wild salad at Morchella, the idea for a seaweed centric Veganizer popup was born. My friend Rachelle works with Blue Evolution, and I’ve been wanting to work with Chef Cameron Dunlap, who opened Morchella last fall, for some time. One thing lead to another, and we hosted what is probably the most ambitious and creative Veganizer dinner to date. It was also the first in-person Veganizer event in two years. Morchella x Blue Evolution x Veganizer A Vegan Tasting Menu of Seaweed and Foraged Ingredients Located in the charming Fremont neighborhood ..read more
