Over the past six months, the Oakland Lacrosse Club worked in collaboration with the Oakland Unified School District and the Oakland Athletic League to address the District’s Title IX challenges. An initiative was developed from this partnership to build an eight-team varsity girls lacrosse league. Building off the model established at Oakland Tech in 2017, Skyline High School and Oakland High will become varsity programs for the spring 2021 season. Lucia, Gloria, Clarisa, Ariam, and Nini were all part of the 1st generation of our youth teams. They were the first ones at their middle schools to take the brave step of trying out a new sport, and cleared the pathway for other girls at their school to join.
