EYE will keep this post short, as it seems our USAToday Sports Daily network has begun implementing a new format which is more confusing to me than the Build Back Better bill. So this is a test in its own right…
Two games scheduled for Sunday — Washington at Philadelphia Eagles and Seattle Seahawks at Los Angeles Rams — have been moved to Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.
Tuesday’s game against Washington is pivotal, as both teams enter with a 6-7 record and are competing for the final NFC wild-card spot.
Many Eagles fans (and players) are reasonably upset that, because of the covid woes in the WAS organi ..read more

Not so fast, bud! As the esteemed GK Brizer reminded me in an email today, the New York Football Giants were “depleted” in the Eagles’ recent loss to them.
Plus, I’m being stupidly-try-to-be-funny with that headline. Spiritually speaking, EYE could never condone or enjoy anything close to what the Washington football team is suffering right now in the running out of eligible players.
The Washington Football Team is banged up heading into its Week 15 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. That’s nothing new, but the new round of ailments combined with a revised COVID list present new challen ..read more

We criticize Eagles football machinations a lot here, it’s kind of our calling…But even if you are staunchly a cynic of the “new deal” going down in Philly, you have to admit this season has been way more entertaining than the debacle that was 2020.
Sure, there are major second-guessing opportunities across the spectrum of the personnel decisions in roster-building and the coaching presentations on game days…but do you not get the sense that there’s light at the end of the tunnel? Maybe it’s not an oncoming train…
If nothing else, and it’s often difficult to sift out, this group of guys and co ..read more

EYE didn’t watch this game, having been blacked out by CBS in my new home region of southern Delaware. I had to catch the game on the radio, with Merrill Reese and Mike Quick calling the action. So I have to credit the Associated Press for the recap on this one.
But one thing shone through the radio, and that was Gardner Minshew’s ability to absorb the Eagles’ offense in a few short weeks and distill it into a tasty brew. Minshew proved to anybody interested, including injured QB Jalen Hurts, that you don’t have to play with your hair on fire to drive Sirianni’s car.

Back to the scene of the crime for the defeathered Eagles (5-7)… the schedule-making gods send them again by bus to the bloody Meadowlands where they just dropped an embarrassing stinker of an offense on their uptown divisional rivals in New York (5-6). This time it’s the other gang from West Side Story— the Jets (3-8).
You gotta believe none of the won-lost records matter at this point. Confidence on the Eagles’ side must be as shaken as the gimpy ankle Jalen Hurts is dragging around at the moment.
The NFL is about how teams are trending. Right now, the arrow is up for the Jets, n ..read more

Oh man, talk about laying an egg on offense! The Eagles regressed to the mean in spectacular fashion.
It was sad, it was maddening if you were expecting the Birds would continue their midseason upward trend with a sweet balance of power running and strategic passing. Anything that could go wrong did.
The NYG defense intercepted Jalen Hurts three times, forced four turnovers overall and held Philadelphia to a season-low in points in beating the error-prone Eagles 13-7 Sunday.
Eagles defensively got the job done. The game was the first for the Giants’ offense since the firing of coor ..read more

The New York Giants are a mess right now, after taking a 30-10 drubbing in Tampa Bay on MNF. Their head coach Joe Judge fired his OC Jason Garrett, which kinda feels like a scapegoat move since Garrett had been given a rag-tag assemblage of broken talent on his watch. Maybe Freddie Kitchens takes over the playcalling, maybe Judge does it himself, but either way they cannot deny how beat up and demoralized their offensive unit remains.
But beware of the dead cat bounce when any coach is fired mid-season. Often, if even only for a game or two, the players respond with renewed vigor ..read more

It was only about a month ago when media rumors were snowballing that rookie head coach Nick Sirianni was overmatched, overwhelmed and on the verge of losing his locker room. But a curious thing happened— instead of ridiculing their head coach for his early playcalling struggles and pollyanna flower power coach-speak, the players kept buying into his intense focus on the fundamentals in practice. Apparently they have grown through the turbulence to believe in their coaching. They’re starting to play for this guy.

The Eagles at 4-6 take on the 5-4 New Orleans Saints this Sunday. Believe it or not, the Birds seem to be evolving as the season goes on.
Maybe said more accurately, their coaches are evolving in how they implement game plans.
Sirianni’s offense is finally creating some guesswork for opposing defenses. He’s putting his QB in better positions to make intermediate throws. Less running around, more focus on hitting second or third reads… He’s calling more tackle-over and QB-counter runs too, not just inside zone. Guards are actually pulling across formations. It’s clear that Sirianni and Hu ..read more

Jalen Hurts arguably played his best half as a pro quarterback. Defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon pulled some new strings with his previously stale attack design.
The Eagles rode a powerful 214-yard running game and an encouraging performance from Jalen Hurts. The defense limited Denver to 309 total net yards, 89 on the ground, and one touchdown in five trips to the red zone,
Cornerback Darius Slay scooped up a loose football on the final play of he third quarter and returned it 83 yards for a touchdown, sparking the Philadelphia Eagles‘ 30-13 upset of the Denver Broncos on Sunday. T ..read more
