My Dutch oven or slow cooker are simmering soup at my home every week during fall and winter months. Chili, chicken noodle, and split pea are a few of our favorites. However, it's nice to spice things up once in awhile, and that's what I did with the recipe I'm sharing today for Chipotle Chicken Soup. I used a chopped chipotle pepper, adobo sauce and lime juice to create a unique flavor in this soup - and it made the house smell delicious. This post is sponsored by Jewel-Osco. All opinions and text are my own. The best part? I didn't have to leave my house on a chilly day to pick up any of ..read more

Instant Pot Pecan Pie Oatmeal is an easy breakfast recipe made in the instant post {pressure cooker}. Perfect for winter and ready in under 10 minutes. Crock-pot {slow cooker} instructions are also included below. This post contains affiliate links. Here is a foodie confession: I bought an instant pot over the summer, inspired by my sister-in-law and a huge Facebook group of instant pot fans. But I have only used it a handful of times. That changes right now because I finally figured out how easy it is, especially for quick meals with a baby in the house. Breakfast can be a hectic time ..read more

This post includes four learning activities for toddlers, now that baby C turned one year old. One of the most important decisions we made over the past year is deciding how C should be cared for after I went back to work. We thought long and hard about whether to pursue a nanny share or a child care, and which child care to choose after touring a few. We decided on a child care due to the social interaction with other babies and toddlers; the caring environment we observed; and the commitment to ongoing communication with parents. For me, one of the most important aspects of selecting a c ..read more

I am sharing a new, holiday-inspired dessert recipe today - because it's Friday; it was 20 degrees this morning; it's SNOWING; and the holidays are only a few short weeks away. Who has started Christmas shopping? I have one item purchased so far. But I have a list. This dip is easy to make with only a handful of ingredients. I lightened it up slightly and added protein by including Greek yogurt, but this is not a diet recipe. It also includes f ..read more

This Pumpkin Spice and Hazelnut Latte is a delicious, healthier version of a pumpkin spice latte using home-brewed coffee or espresso, pumpkin puree, hazelnut milk, spices and maple syrup. This coffee drink is vegan since it uses hazelnut milk. This post contains affiliate links. I tried a new vegan pumpkin + pecan latte at a coffee shop over the weekend that used pecan milk instead of almond or soy. I'm not vegan but I usually order almond milk in my coffee because I prefer the taste over cow's milk. The pumpkin flavors combined with pecan milk were SO delicious that I wanted to re-create ..read more

Door County Fall Colors + Dinner Date at Wickman House

Last weekend I visited Door County in northern Wisconsin for a short getaway with K and baby C, to explore the fall colors. Door County is located on a peninsula in northeastern Wisconsin, surrounded by Green Bay and Lake Michigan. We spend most of our time in the northern half of Door County, with K's family.  We missed "peak color" by only a few days, so the trees were at 60% color over the weekend. Driving around was beautiful - I couldn't resist a roadside photo or two. We also visited Newport State Park for a short hike on the Monarch Trail before a rainstorm arrived - baby C e ..read more
