First of all, don’t worry! If there are posts here that you find useful or just enjoy, rest assured they aren’t going anywhere. What’s really happening is that we’ll no longer be adding new posts. Our most informative posts (like how-tos) will find a new home as Articles on our website. Our blog has always been a great way to both educate and engage with our customers and followers, which we appreciate. These days, we mostly use Instagram and TikTok to show a more personal side of GladRags; if you’re interested in what we’re up to, we recommend checking those out! Who Is Hazel?

Being green, an environmentally-themed name was the obvious choice for our newest carry bag! ‘Hazel’ is in reference to Hazel M. Johnson (1935-2011), who is considered to be the mother of environmental justice. Photo via goodblacknews.org Hazel and her family lived in a housing project called Altgeld Gardens Homes in Chicago’s South Side, managed by the Chicago Housing Authority. Her husband developed lung cancer, which took his life in 1969, and some of her children suffered from skin and respiratory issues. Hazel was motivated to investigate how the neighborhood’s environmental conditions ..read more

Menstrual Cycles and the Moon go way, waaay back Though the scientific community is still hmm’ing about the potential synchrony of the moon and menstrual cycles, it is irrefutable that there are cultural and spiritual connections spanning human history that link the moon cycle to the menstrual cycle, making more meaning of the monthly(ish) bleeding experienced by more than half the human population. Beyond Biology It isn’t hard to imagine why a menstruating person from long ago would naturally feel a bond with the moon, moving as we do through our own phases, not too dissimilar from the ..read more

GladRags Gab

As a period care company, we get asked often if the reusable period products we make work for a heavy flow. In a word: YES. So what exactly is a ‘heavy flow’? A period is the shedding of the endometrium, which is the lining of the uterus that grows each cycle to support a potential pregnancy. A typical period can range from 4 – 5 days long, with a common loss of menstrual blood being 30 – 44 ml (about 2 – 3 tablespoons). There will be times that will be less typical, like right after menarche (someone’s first period), after pregnancy, and during perimenopause (the years leading up to someone ..read more
