Middle-earth CCG Open World, Solo Mode

I started playing tabletop games as a kid back in the ‘90s. I was always somewhat aware of the Middle-earth CCG, consistently hearing positive things about it over the years at events like Gen Con. When the absolute heartbreak of a movie that is The Rise of Skywalker was released back in late 2019, I started distracting myself by diving deeper into other intellectual properties I have always enjoyed. As I started a re-read of The Lord of the Rings, I was reminded of this game. I happened on a pretty good deal for the Middle-earth CCG Challenge Decks, so I couldn’t help but grab them. Building a Star Wars: Destiny Draft Cube

Unfortunately, the games we love come and go. When a game I love comes to an end, one of my favorite ways to pay homage to the experience is to build a draft cube for the game. On top of giving me a bit of closure, building a cube offers a tidy way to revisit my favorite format of a game at a moment’s notice. With Star Wars: Destiny officially coming to an end earlier this year, I started working on my draft cube during isolation (2020 for future reference). When I tweeted about it, I had a lot of people asking me questions about what it was and how I built it. So, what is a draft cube?  ..read more

We have amazing news to share. Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn, the well-loved expandable card game from Plaid Hat Games, is getting a second chance through a new variation of our Covenant Subscriptions service we’re calling the Player-Driven Production model. So happy to be announcing this. We’ve added another fantastic game to our lineup, a trading card game from Legend Story Studios out of New Zealand, called Flesh and Blood. We’ve had our eyes on Flesh and Blood ever since we streamed it earlier this year, and were captivated by its remarkably fresh gameplay and absolutely gorgeous art style. Just look at a few examples from the newest set, Arcane Rising. Yes, this might be the most beautiful card game ever printed. Of course, there is more to a game than how it looks, and Flesh and Blood absolutely delivers here. It was a delight to discover t ..read more

Mages causing problems? Tired of seeing Shattermind? Building a defensive list – or, ironically enough, an offensive list? You’ll want to take a look at Psychic Shield. We’re seeing another first for the game in Psychic Shield; and its the best mana-to-modifier ratio to date. Free to cast and +3 on the flip makes this a card worth considering for every list. Assassins like it for the insane +3. Laners like it for its defensive prowess without costing precious mana. Everyone likes it. If you’re running a lot of Predict? It should probably have a slot. The card is probably more versatile than i ..read more

Stone Barricade – Skytear Into Ashes Preview

I remember asking Zach early in our Skytear journey whether or not we’d ever see “instant speed” worship actions. Imagining Khenui dropping an illusion in response to an opponent moving into position, or a clutch Shapeshift out of nowhere, was both interesting and potentially frightening. Maybe it would be too much. We’re about to find out. For the first time in Skytear, we have the ability for a quasi-Worship action to take place without an spending an action point – which opens up a tremendous amount of strategy. Nelaclen can suddenly play cards of any rune, even when it looks as though t ..read more
