If you have a melody written and lyrics you want to update together…

Happy to give it a swing. Often it’s easier for me to rewrite lyrics to music once I have the melody and hear how it would sound. If you’re looking for a collaborator to try something like this, feel free to drop me a line! Can try with a track you’re strumming / humming on or singing old lyrics you want to update / whatever comes to mind. submitted by /u/secretginger_202 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

So, obligatory I suck ass at most aspects of writing songs hahaha. Anyway, this is literally a shitty phone recording of the 1st/2nd time I played this through after finishing it haha. There's an Eb in the chorus that I just feel doesn't fit but I don't have the attention span to figure it out if it takes longer than 10 minutes in 1 sitting sorta thing haha. Feel free to absolutely shit on me if you want cos I promise you can't lower my self confidence anymore ? but yeah I'd love some feedback, it's still some of that journalling how I feel about how people see me and how friends see me and w ..read more

Any tips on beginning

A bit hypocritical this as I’m a firm believer that there isn’t a right way of writing a song and that you need to be there to catch it when it comes to you but do people have a certain protocol they follow when writing songs and how long do you typically spend on one, whether it be yourselves or famous songwriters. Any help would be great. My favourite songwriter is Noel Gallagher just to give people a jist of the type of music I’m into and resonate with. submitted by /u/Holiday_Elk3944 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Does chord progression key matter or is it fine to mix and match chords of any key?

Hey guys. I am a complete noob to songwriting and could use some advice. I have a verse progression of em - C - D (which is in E minor and Gmajor I believe) then my Chorus is G - D - Em (which is in G major i think) and then i wanted to use Am - Em -D - em as bridge (which im not sure what key is in) so my doubt is do progressions themselves matter ? i believe all these chords are a part of the key e minor or g major ? but their arrangements can make them belong to different keys ? so is it fine to mix and match chords which belong to a certain key ? I know that there isnt any real rule and a ..read more

Using a fictional character and/or species for a song title and lyrics

Hi. I'm writing a song about a character on a novel and I'm wondering if I'm allowed to do it without permission. For instance: Can I call a song "Jawa" (species) and tell the story of the little guys who live in a desert planet collecting stuff and selling it? Also, can I name it "Frodo" and tell his story, for example? Thanks a lot! submitted by /u/MojoPine [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
