Firefighters in Brooklyn found a man dead on a burning boat in a parking lot early on Saturday morning, police reported. Law enforcement sources said the inferno broke out at about 4:54 a.m. on April 27 inside a parking lot opposite 253 Conover St. in Red Hook. According to police, the boat had been connected to a trailer when members of the 76th Precinct, in responding to a 911 call, found it ablaze. The multi-agency search in the woods of Manorville for evidence related to the Gilgo Beach murders continued on Friday, and expanded to the North Sea hamlet on the South Fork, as well as Manorville’s own Halsey Manor Road. Halsey Manor Road was where victims Valerie Mack and Jessica Taylor were found, partially, in 2000 and 2003, respectively. Further remains of both were found on Gilgo Beach in 2011. Black unemployment rate drops significantly in NYC, new economic report shows

The Black unemployment rate in NYC has significantly decreased since 2022, according to a report that the city’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC) released Friday. The EDC, which releases an economic snapshot for the city each month, reports that Black unemployment in New York City fell from 10.7 to 7.9% from Jan. 1, 2022, to April 1, 2024, marking the first time since before the pandemic that the rate has fallen to below 8%.
