Jonny Greenwood has composed the original score for the last five Paul Thomas Anderson movies, dating back to There Will Be Blood way back in 2007. Unsurprisingly but delightfully, he’s about to make it six straight. A new profile of Greenwood in The Guardian pegged to his new eight-hour organ piece “268 Years Of Reverb” confirms that the Radiohead and the Smile member is doing the music for Anderson’s Licorice Pizza follow-up ..read more

Demersal’s New Self-Titled Album Is So Intense
Stereogum
by Chris DeVille
5h ago
We’ve posted about the Danish metallic screamo band Demersal several times over the years. Sometimes it captures glimpses of freaked-out, basement-ready post-hardcore. Other times it gives off the essence of grotesque, punishing death metal. Every once in a while, the clouds part and some absolute beauty shines through. And on closing track “Som Et Barn Mod Dit Bryst,” majestically rising post-rock morphs into… an electronic ..read more

UK rock legend Paul Weller, formerly of the Jam and the Style Council, is preparing to release 66, which is somehow his 17th solo album. The man never goes away! We’ve already posted first single “Soul Wandering,” and now Weller as also shared a lush, jazzy track called “Nothing.” On this one, Weller sings soulfully over pillowy strings and saxophones, and it feels like one of the most grown-up records that an ex-punk has ever made. Wednesday, after news of Steve Albini’s death broke, the social accounts for Nirvana, the legendary recording engineer’s most famous client, recirculated the letter Albini wrote the band in late 1992, when they were considering hiring him to record 1993’s In Utero. That’s the one where Albini famously rejected producer royalties, writing, “I would like to be paid like a plumber: I do the job and you pay me what it’s worth.” Other than that tribute, the surviving members of Nirvana had yet to comment on Albini’s death until Thursday night ..read more
