As I work my way through the latest season (3) of The Chef Show, recently released on Netflix, I have felt a compelling urge to write a blog on the hit show. As many of my readers are aware (and anyone who has read the name of my blog) this site focus' on all things film, but after getting through two and half seasons of The Chef Show I wanted to make an exception. The Chef Show is a simple series, following two well-known faces in Jon Favreau, the incredibly successful actor-come-director and Roy Choi, the chef who revolutionised street food, as they share their passion for food with other r ..read more

Avengers: Infinity War Ending Scene Review

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFomwoVngOI I have a theory when it comes to the greatest films ever made and, that is, that usually the ending of the film is unexpected but borderline sad / depressing. Now this isn't for every film, there are plenty of greats where the film ends positively but the ones that really stand out for me have endings which leave you feeling kinda sad. Some great examples of this are films like The Dark Knight, Empire Strikes Back, Terminator 2 and Avengers: Infinity War, which is the film I have picked today's Scene Review from. Avengers: Infinity War ending scene i ..read more

Birds of Prey Movie Review

It's been nearly 4 years since we last saw Harley Quinn on the big screen in Suicide Squad and now, just 6 months away from her on screen anniversary, we see her back in Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn. Even though Margot Robbie plays The Joker's love interested perfectly, did we really require another appearance? I was reluctant but open to giving her another chance. Sadly that reluctancy was justified... Birds of Prey is a film which revolves around Harley Quinn, to the point where it may as well have not been called Bird of Prey, however, I think everyon ..read more

6 Reasons Why WB Should ‘Release The Snyder Cut’ of Justice League

Back in 2017 the movie world was introduced to the Justice League, a film that brought together DC Comic's most valued heroes, to fight the fight bigger than each could handle themselves. The build up to this film had a rocky start, seeing Zack Snyder direct the first two films which led to this collaboration of mighty heroes. The first picture being Man of Steel, which over time has become highly regarded, but on the release, suffered from mixed reviews and Batman v Superman, which sadly did not reach the heights many had wanted. However, one thing was for sure, Snyder was creating a vision ..read more

Guest Blog: Top 10 Female Empowerment Moments in Avengers: Endgame
Life of Films | Movie Blog

Avengers: Endgame is far from your typical chick-flick but it still drew women and little girls to the box office nonetheless. As of this writing, it's earned a whopping $2.76 billion worldwide, including the recent re-release with extra footage. But beyond the numbers, I've always seen this film as not only one of the most culturally-relevant movies of our time but also the most empowering. More so because in this film, compared to previous MCU movies, the women reigned supreme. And I'm not just talking about that goosebumps-inducing A-force scene during the battle. Here, Marvel's female cha ..read more

Top 10 Film Scores Which Were Tarnished by the Movie Itself
Life of Films | Movie Blog

There are many aspects to film which are more important to some people than others. For me, the score is one of the most vital parts to a film. If a movie doesn’t have a score I enjoy, it is already on the back-step. This isn’t to say I don’t enjoy films that have scores I am not particularly fond of, it’s just that there is a greater chance of me enjoying the movie if it does. A great score is a work of art in itself, and I find it a great shame if someone doesn’t get to experience some of these brilliant creations due to the films themselves not being well received. When a movie gets averag ..read more

Why DC Will Never Beat Marvel's Cinematic Universe
Life of Films | Movie Blog

The constant battle between DC and Marvel has been an argument that has existed for what feels like the length of time, but it has excelled massively, of late, when Marvel created it’s Cinematic Universe 10 years ago. Marvel has without-a-doubt created a money making machine within cinema today, so why is it that Warner Bros. have struggled to get their DC Universe off the ground, especially when they have had huge advantages over Marvel? Such as owning all the heroes within DC Comics as well as having, arguably, two of the most popular heroes, of all time, within this catalogue - Superman an ..read more

Scene of the Week: Home Alone - Mom Finds Kevin

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8qkLu9HYI0 As Christmas gets closer, it seemed logical to pick a scene from yet another Christmas film to add to our Scene of the Week segment. When I try to think of my favourite Christmas movie, I always come to choosing Home Alone. Home Alone is a film that really captures the Christmas spirit and is the movie I looked forward to watching every year. Not only is the film funny, it is extremely heart-warming, which is portrayed brilliantly in the scene where Kevin McCallister’s Mom finally returns back from Paris, Christmas morning, to be reunited with her so ..read more

Scene of the Week: Emma Thompson/Joni Mitchell, Love Actually.

For this week’s SotW, I’ve decided to go with a Christmas-themed scene, as the biggest day of the year is fast approaching! Now, when it comes to scenes from Christmas films, there’s no shortage of classic moments, and I consider the one I have chosen to be right up there, purely from an acting point of view. The scene comes from Love Actually, and it is immediately after Emma Thompson discovers some devastating news regarding her husband. The story preceding this scene, with regard to Thompson’s Karen and her husband Harry, played by the late, great Alan Rickman, is that Harry’s much-younger ..read more

Scene of the Week: Back to the Future III Opening Scene

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4R5FbDdXn8Y The Back to the Future Trilogy is up there with some of the best trilogies of all time. Films that use time travel as it’s premise can get very confusing and usually end up bombing, but not Back to the Future. These films make time travel easy to understand whilst keeping that element of complexity we all love about this fictional invention. This is highlighted perfectly in the the end of Part II / opening of Part III, which is why I have chosen this moment as my Scene of the Week. What makes this scene so special is that is starts where Back to the ..read more
