Wide receiver is second, with much longer odds
Vegas knows. Well, mostly. I remember leading up to the 2021 NFL Draft when every national reporter — and some of the local beat — did their best to convince us the San Francisco 49ers were taking Alabama quarterback Mac Jones.
Jones was the betting favorite to go No. 3 overall until about two hours before the Niners were on the clock. Then, those odds shifted. North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance went from a slight underdog to the overwhelming favorite. Sure enough, Lance was the pick.
It's been a signific ..read more

The free agents were officially assigned their numbers
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Chris Conley announced on Instagram that he has a new number. He previously wore No. 84 and will now wear No. 18.
Conley didn’t have to pay for his new number, as punter Mitch Wishnowsky switched from No. 18 to No. 3, which was Ray-Ray McCloud’s old number. McCloud is wearing No. 34 for his new team, the Atlanta Falcons.
According to the team website, here are the numbers for the free agent class from 2024:
QB Joshua Dobbs: 5
WR Trent Taylor: 19
CB Isaac Yiadom: 22

The 49ers’ chances of moving on from Brandon Aiyuk are seeming lesser and lesser by the day
With one week to go until the 2024 NFL Draft, trade buzz surrounding San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is still rapid on the internet, but one source has remained adamant in shutting down the rumors: Aiyuk’s agent Ryan Williams.
After shutting down a report that Aiyuk requested a trade earlier in the week, Williams disregarded the notion that there’s been interest in trading the receiver, calling a report that the Steelers are aggressively pursuing his client ..read more

It’s only been done twice since 1950.
Only a few weeks ago, it felt like offensive lineman or bust for the San Francisco 49ers at pick No. 31. Now, it seems the popular pick among mock drafts is the 49ers opting to go with the best player available, whether it ends up being an offensive lineman, wide receiver, or cornerback.
But what if the 49ers used their first and second pick to address the offensive line?
I can hear all the readers doing their best Dennis Reynolds impression, asking, “twoooo offensive linemen?” Only twice since 1950 ..read more

Will Chop be there is the question?
With the NFL draft a week away, NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah held his final media conference call to give his final thoughts on prospects, team needs, and his predictions for the draft. Jeremiah’s final mock draft was released in the middle of March, and while the buzz surrounding teams and their intentions has changed, he spoke glowingly about Penn State edge rusher Chop Robinson, who would be under the tutelage of San Francisco 49ers defensive line coach Kris Kocurek if the 49ers landed the talented Penn State EDGE rush ..read more

My favorite player in the draft might be projected as a fourth-rounder, but he’s going to produce like a Day 1 pick.
We are officially one week away from the NFL Draft. We’ve reviewed the two position groups that are widely considered the deepest in the class.
This wide receiver group has something for everybody. Seeing as many as four or five stars produced would not be surprising. I’m particularly bullish on two wideouts and could see the San Francisco 49ers gravitating toward a particular Texas and Central Florida receiver.
To be frank, the offensive tack ..read more

Your daily San Francisco 49ers news for Thursday, April 18th,
Daniel Jeremiah weighs in on 49ers potentially trading up in the draft
“I do think they have such a rock-solid nucleus of [blue-chip] players,” Jeremiah said. “The elite teams have between eight and 12 blue-chip guys, premier guys. They’ve got that. They’ve got that kind of checked. So now, it’s about having the depth in place that you can withstand injuries and not having enormous drop-off at these other positions.
“So I don’t think they need superstar drafts, but I think they need depth along the offensive line. I think they ca ..read more

Could the talented Alabama cornerback fall to No. 31 where the 49ers are picking?
The San Francisco 49ers are nearly one week away from the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, where they’ve been linked to several different prospects and positions with their first selection.
Entering the draft, the 49ers don’t necessarily have a glaring need, but will look to add contributors, both for the present and the future, given their current roster complexion.
One area where the 49ers don’t have a locked-in starter, however, is at cornerback, where the team returns Charvarius ..read more

With the luxury of hindsight, who are you siding with?
Some people make a big deal about mock drafts, while most of us understand it’s a pointless exercise meant to introduce us to names while giving us a general idea of where a player is set to be selected.
You have another week of mocks to go. But let’s take a trip down memory lane and see what life would be like for the San Francisco 49ers had they selected who the godfather of the NFL Draft, ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr., mocked them instead of who Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch wound up taking.
We’ll go back to ..read more

The 49ers have a number of positions to address in the draft, and safety should be one of them.
The San Francisco 49ers have had an eventful offseason to date, adding a number of new players at several positions to fortify the roster and fill their holes ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.
The team made several moves along the defensive line, while also adding players at cornerback, linebacker, and tight in addition to retaining a couple of their free agents.
However, one position where the 49ers have stayed pat is safety, as the team’s lone move was e ..read more
