Jayne Nisbet – high jump to marathon medal (Hampden photo by Bobby Gavin) Scottish Marathon medallists (on the RR and CC Commission website Archive) Commonwealth Games high jumper Jayne Nisbet is among our Scottish Marathon Championship medallists. Jayne competed at Hampden at Glasgow 2014, making the final in the high jump with a best leap of 1.85m in qualifying. We are entering the last lap in terms of entries for the forthcoming District Champs and National Open events. These are among the first scottishathletics championship events of the season with the District Champs taking place at three venues – for the U17, U15 and U13 age groups. And for Senior and U20 athletes, we have a programme of National Open Events also taking place over the weekend of May 10-12. Kris Jones won the Inter-Counties up and down trial with Robbie Simpson second (photo with thanks to Woodentops) From Angela Mudge Scotland gained five automatic selections for the European Off-Road Running Championships 31 May to 2 June in a successful weekend of racing in the Lake District. The uphill only trial kicked off the weekend’s racing with Scout and Jacob Adkin (both Moorfoot) gaining automatic selection by finishing first and second respectively in the senior uphill only trial. By David McCarthy Retired policeman Steve Adam spends much of time these days playing an Extra in a host of movies and TV shows such as Outlander and The Crown. The change of career came a little bit too late for a role in Chariots of Fire but a spot of running on St Andrews’ West Sands beach would have been a piece of perfect type casting for the 57-year from Dunfermline. And the duo came up with big throws again in America over the weekend. Angela went beyond 60m in the hammer for the first time with a throw of 60.99m at a meeting in Charlottesville. Photo with thanks to Nigel Bromley BBC Sport website coverage Mhairi Maclennan made an excellent marathon debut with a strong run in London to win British and Scottish titles. The Scottish Half Marathon champion moved up a distance in fine style to record 2:29.15 in the elite race. And Callum Hawkins won the men’s gold in our championships as he came home sixth British athlete in 2:17.34. It was the first time in five years Callum has completed a marathon after DNF at the Olympics and subsequent injury issues. Oliver Patton on his way to victory in London (photo by Neil Renton) Results Scotland’s Oliver Patton claimed a superb win at the London Mini Marathon in the Men’s U17 race. The strong Scottish performances included a team win in the British Athletics Road Championships for our U15 Boys and a race win for Para athlete, Niamh Currie. RRGP 2024 rd2 Seven athletes have landed shares in our Road Race Grand Prix after the most recent race. The Scottish 10-Mile Champs were staged at Strathclyde Park in the Tom Scott Road Races on March 31. And fine performances at the top end of the race saw athletes land shares as well as Scottish Championship medals. There were four A standards in the Men’s race and a B standard.
