Cerebral refers to the brain and Palsy refers to poor muscle control or weakness. Cerebral Palsy (CP) is not a disease, but a term used to describe a group of disorders resulting from a defect to one or more areas of the brain that occur pre birth or in infancy. CP is a non progressive condition as the brain damage is a one off occurrence and though the brain cells affected will not be repaired other brain cells will continue to develop and work. A sufferers intelligence is therefore usually not diminished by the condition.

Nearly everyone faces hardships and difficulties at just one occasion or another. But for people with disabilities, barriers are often more frequent and have greater impact. The World Health Organization (WHO) describes barriers as being quite just physical obstacles.
Here is the Definition of Barriers:

For the severely physically disabled individual the inability to communicate can be both a terrifying and frustrating experience, whether it is temporary while on a ventilator or permanent from a brain stem infarct. Generally, everyday communicative interactions such as the expression of thoughts and ideas, basic needs, and feelings are denied for this person.
With advances in electronic technology, comprehensive rehabilitation programs are used to match the nonspeaking and severely disabled individuals with augmentative communication aids like Alphabet Board for Disabl ..read more

Not all humans are privileged to have a sound body. Some are challenged by disease and some are by disabilities. Those who belong to the second category tend to defy the odds of life, both physically and mentally on a daily basis. And what we see them go through from outside hardly explains it. Most of these challenges surface in an attempt to complete daily routines such as dressing, bathing, combing hair, and eating. They don’t need our sound knowledge on disability awareness. Sometimes, all they need is a little push to their chair for easily stepping on to those stai ..read more

The road to life is not straight. Here, we have to pass through many curves. But some people are extraordinary and have to go through many zigzag paths in life. Yes, I am talking about those who have any physical/mental disability. If an ordinary person faces so many challenges in life, think what kind of challenges a disabled person faces in his/her life when you are different from others, it is difficult for you to live with others. You are made fun of, people look at you with pity. People always think that you are not like them; it means that you can’t accomplish what ..read more

As we are slowly getting back to the new normal, I have to share a couple of thoughts about what happened over the last three months. We had the Covid-19 pandemic which is still going on, although it is getting better. We see thousands and thousands of people die from this pandemic. The doctors and researchers are learning what we have to do to stop it. Yes. They are saying things that contradict what they said, but it is all normal with research.

Anyone who has ever had to look for personal assistants can tell you that finding a good personal assistant is very difficult. As Chris Lenart discussed in a previous post, “caregiving is a job where a few people can do well,” and anyone who decides to be a full-time personal assistant has a lot to consider. The lives of people with disabilities wouldn’t be the same without them, and many of us – even the families of those with disabilities – come to rely on them greatly. However, how often do we stop and think about who is taking care of them? Sometimes, people who take on roles as personal ..read more

As technology continues to innovate each year, so do the improvements in medical alert systems. These advancements in medical technology help those with certain medical conditions or disabilities to live as independently as possible, knowing they can get help if needed.
For instance, with 3 million Americans affected by epilepsy, using a medical device could help them to live a more active life, knowing help isn’t far away.
What’s more, many people later in life suffer from health conditions which can affect their standard of living.
Many devices offer a range of options to sui ..read more
