Discussing China and life in China

Maybe not within 10-20 years but within our lifetimes, or nearly after? Western European countries have a per capita income of around $40K USD nominal annually. This is more manageable for China to achieve than America’s $75K per capita income, which frankly seems totally impossible for China to ever achieve. Of course, even reaching the standard of Western Europe would require the Chinese GDP to be 4x more what it currently is. But China seems to have the tech for it. What do you guys think? When I say China, I refer to the entire country, so not solely urban China.

Just (last night) had a chat with a cousin's kid (who is looking to go to America to study) who spent a few minutes espousing the cultural revolution because 'people were happier then than they are now' - this cousin has lived overseas for many years but still falls for every 'america bad' headline going. It's a very strange information exchange - anyone else have anything similar?
