My blog is now a time capsule. From 2005, to a wavering heart beat in 2021… it has met it’s endgame: Instagram. After blogging for over 15yrs, the once wild frontier of the internet has turned into a more streamlined highway of content. I’ve been struggling with this transition because of those last few words in the previous sentence. I’m more of a country backroads kinda guy. There is something beautiful about a vast sandbox of diverse websites across the world, however, the ability to navigate that world was cumbersome. This may not age well, but for now I believe Instagram is a great platfo ..read more

Escape from New York

Sunrise to sunset with three MINIs at New York’s Bear Mountain State Park. Their small sizes are ideal for zipping through city traffic, and even more fun to escape from it to the twisty mountain roads. MINI is a brand that speaks to drivers who take the scenic route. From the LED Union Jack tailights to the panoramic sunroof, to the plethora of options, these little cars pack loads of character. My buddy Will Keown brought his RED camera and put together a highlight reel from the day.   https://vimeo.com/318943920 As always big thanks to my team who helped everything run smoo ..read more

Meet the Cadillac XT4

Meet the all-new XT4, Cadillac’s first-ever luxury compact SUV. New chassis, new engine, new segment for Cadillac. Considering these were touted as the first professional photos taken of the vehicle, I had to make sure they were sleek, classy, and eye-catching. The sly minds at Campbell Ewald had a vision of a dark grey XT4 framed by a similar dark background to highlight the new lines… but beyond that, they gave me full creative freedom to shoot and edit to my heart’s desire. After months of pre-production to get all the pieces together and nail down a look, we started shooting at Midcoast St ..read more

Sphero Bolt

Once again a cool product from the innovative company Sphero is in front of the camera. Take a gander at the eye-catching programmable BOLT. This photo assignment came with a bit more challenges than Ollie mainly because the BOLT is encased in a clear sphere that naturally reflects absolutely everything. After giving it a good try with a fully assembled out-of-the-box BOLT, I realized some X-ACTO surgery was needed to separately shoot the robotic innards and the encompassing clear sphere (don’t try this at home). Removing the sphere also made it infinitely easier to position the BOLT exactly w ..read more

000 Cover Feature: A Pair of 356 Rubies

Personally, few assignments inspire and excite me as much as 000 Magazine… a sentiment that is surely shared by the select few contributors to the no-compromise passion project helmed by Pete Stout. 000 is a robust publication that directly respects and reflects the contributing artists. When a magazine prints a giant dual-page spread of stitching detail of a normally obscure seat, it shows the level of devotion to the craft shared by the original designers themselves. When flipping through the immersive 20-30 oversized page features, it feels as if you’re there. And of course, the writing is ..read more

2018 LEGO Promo Mailer

Once a year, I send out personalized promotional mailers to current and prospective clients. The first time I gave it a go, back in 2010, they were an instant hit with not only the recipients, but within the photography community as well. Adding a personal touch such as a hand-written note, and piecing together a unique package raises more eyebrows than a basic 5×7″ postcard to say the least. Considering many of the people I do business with are extremely busy and surrounded by some of the most creative and innovative people in the world, this is my trojan horse. Top Gear Behind The Scenes

The widely-acclaimed British TV series Top Gear needs little introduction to car enthusiasts (and non-car enthusiasts) around the world. A cult following meant things were going to be shaken up when the old hosts departed the show… but in 2018, the BBC production team cranked the needle up to 11, and are once again garnering rave reviews. For this season (25), the crew traveled to the States, and I got the ring to shoot stills for two episodes. The first was shot in remote northern California, where the urban legend Bigfoot resides… and a good excuse to implement equally unbelievable off-road ..read more

Lululemon Personal Fitness Shoot

I absolutely love shooting sports/fitness, but have recently been eyeball-deep in automotive photography. So, I stepped away from my desk, corralled some local specimens of fitness in my area, bought matching branded clothing at Lululemon, and did a personal shoot showcasing said clothing and athletes. There’s something rewarding when capturing raw human athleticism and emotion that simply can’t be duplicated in automotive photography… Variety is the spice of life, and the same applies to photography. Every now and then I need to set up a personal assignment to stay sharp, and continually poin ..read more

2017 is a big year for Stewart-Haas Racing, for they switched to Ford-powered cars for the Monster Energy NASCAR series. The team had been running Chevrolet-powered cars since 2004, so the switch made some waves in the NASCAR world. Piloting the team of four Mobil 1 racecars are (#4) Kevin Harvick, (#10) Danica Patrick, (#14) Clint Bowyer, and (#41) Kurt Busch… All decorated veterans of the sport, so you can say I was pretty excited to get behind the wheel…um, camera for this shoot. Did I mention team owner Tony Stewart? Yup, him too! The task was to basically take as many similar angles of al ..read more

The Small Silver Car That Changed Everything

Let’s cut to the chase and bring up the two points that are the most paramount to this blog post… 1. This very 1993 Porsche Boxster Concept is highly regarded to saving Porsche from bankruptcy. 2. 000 Magazine, with Pete Stout at the helm, is cut from the same thread as a unicorn’s mane. Point 1 Yep, bankruptcy. In 1986, Porsche global sales had plummeted from a high of 53,000, to just 14,000 in 1993. The numbers are staggering, but this is no secret Porsche will deny. The same company that built a legacy of racing thoroughbreds, and works of art that hang in children’s rooms everywhere were d ..read more
