Im pretty new to flutes, but this isnt my first instrument. Im very certain that I will stick with flute and olay it. As a beginner, i was looking at the yfl 221/222(not sure whats different) or the yfl 262 for my most expensive option(this it the hard limit of my price range) or the gemeinhardt 2sp. I manage to find a listing on ebay for the 262 at 650 im not sure if it trustworthy though. Either way, which one would be the best for me/is there a better option in the 200-400 range? submitted by /u/Velvety__ [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I'm picking up the flute again after a VERY long break. I'm playing in a couple of community orchestras and the Nuvo flute, though very very cool, ain't gonna cut it. Since I'm not a kid anymore and take much better care of my stuff, I'm considering a step up. Considerations: * This is a hobby * I play socially (community orchestra) * Flute is not my primary instrument and is treated as such I'd like to know if I should inquire about trying only student flutes or whatever is cheapest or if it'd be worth discussing a step up instrument with FC sales team. I'm asking here because no one is tryi ..read more

What are the big brands when it comes to flutes? What are the few and the proud, the ones everyone drools over and dreams about? For example, I grew up playing clarinet, and the ones to look out for were Buffet Crampon and Backun as well as some other lesser known shops, but Yamaha and Selmer were acceptable budget brands. I just don't know what the cream of the crop is with flutes yet. submitted by /u/TakeItElsewhereTroll [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I'm looking for an online resource where I can buy nearly any concert c flute replacement parts. I'm talking being able to buy full key sets and other hardware, sky's the limit. I tried looking it up on Google, but I'm mostly seeing replacement pads. Any input? submitted by /u/TakeItElsewhereTroll [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

It hurts my heart. I played flute from 5th grade to 10th grade and lover it. Ultimately it combated my ability to go for a college tennis "career" and I had to give it up. I still have it with me, but it's been almost 6 years since I've last played. I tried it today and it still feels light, beautiful in my hands. Until I play an e or f. The flute goes... hoarse? It just doesn't play. I suspect it's due to the long time of not having been played (rust too). Wish I could figure it out as g,a,b,c, and d flat play fine. Not really sure what to do. Since I'm not playing anymore, I have no need to ..read more

Hi everyone! I’m just finishing my first year as a music major in college and it’s been terrible. I’ve been met with so much negativity in my ensembles, from my peers, from professors, and from my orchestra. Even my private tutor has been ragging on me a little and it’s caused me to feel really negatively about my skills as a musician and about my choice of career. I do want to add I have no problem with receiving critic. I love constructive criticism I feel like it’s generally really helpful. The kinds of things I’m complaining about are like public humiliation, being generally dismissive, o ..read more

Hello, I'm Erdem from Turkey. I have just had my second lesson yesterday. I'm verry exited. I can create sound relatively easily on headjoint. Of course it is not the best sound. yesterday we started to work on notes from low e up to middle c. I can usually create the notes but they are rough. my question is wheter I should work on the headjoint more before the notes. notes are more interesting for me and it looks like working with notes will provide the same benefits as hedjont only work. However I don't know anything about the issue. May be focusing one thing is better idea? thanks for your ..read more

when I opened the case, the flute was powdery-white, dull color. the darker spots have texture so it seems like rust, but I'm not familiar with woodwinds, only string instruments. is there anything I can do at home to help repair for personal use or try to sell it? thanks in advance! submitted by /u/gh0stthecl0wn [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
