Pienza is one of the most beautiful villages in Tuscany. It also has terrific food and wine, so naturally I visited to scope out the best places for my foodie adventure itineraries . Most travelers focus on the most popular things to do, which I’ll cover briefly; but in my food lover’s guide to Pienza, I’ll be highlighting where to eat and drink and where to sample and buy the famous pecorino cheese. But first some background on Pienza Pienza is located in the beautiful Val d’Orcia area of Tuscany  – the southern portion of the region. The small town itself is adorable, has amazing arch ..read more

Olive Oil Tour and Tasting in Languedoc France
Melange Travel - Savor. Italy. France

An olive oil tour and tasting in Languedoc France at L’Oulibo was one of the best experiences of my Canal du Midi trip . The Languedoc is a well-known wine growing region in the South of France. As it turns out – it’s also one of the only areas in France you’ll find olive trees. The climate in the north is too cold. Olives need a Mediterranean climate to thrive, so places like Languedoc and Provence are just perfect. L’Oulibo is a cooperative with over 1,000 growers in three departments of Southern France. The olives produced, oils processed at the mill and produ ..read more

A Culinary Adventure in Lyon France
Melange Travel - Savor. Italy. France

Last year, I took two research trips to Italy.  I spent three weeks in Bologna and Modena and traveled all through Tuscany on the first; followed by Lake Como, Milan, Verona and Venice on the second. It was a busy year. This year, it’s France’s turn. My next research trip will be a culinary adventure in Lyon France. I leave this week and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t over-the-moon with excitement. Lyon is known as the capital of gastronomy, so it’s the perfect place for culinary travelers, which is one of the reasons I’ve picked it. &nbs ..read more

During my last research trip to Lyon, I made a stop over in Paris. I chose to explore an area I hadn’t visited for about ten years. I wanted to discover where to eat in Paris’ Canal Saint-Martin neighborhood so I could have some new places to add to my  foodie adventures itineraries or to make recommendations for my trip coaching clients. The area didn’t disappoint! It’s thriving and brimming with new discoveries. And some of my old favorites are still going strong. I made the most of my few days there and have great recommendations for where to eat in Paris’ Canal-Saint-Martin neighborho ..read more

Why You Should Pick Corsica For Your Next Vacation
Melange Travel - Savor. Italy. France

A Corsica vacation offers the best of two worlds; it’s the perfect fusion of South of France mixed with island life. And it offers two very different worlds as well. On one hand its coastline is heaven for beach go-ers with many sandy beaches and coves with picture-perfect views over that shimmering azure. On the other hand, the rough natural beauty of the interior attracts the more adventurous type. Or, for those of you seeking balance, you can simply enjoy both! Transportation is straightforward and relatively fast, you can easily discover the island from your holiday home or hotel ..read more

Visiting Marseillan in the South of France
Melange Travel - Savor. Italy. France

Visiting Marseillan France wasn’t really at the top of my bucket list, but it happened to be where my barge cruise sailed from. It’s a popular spot for boats and barges heading down the Canal du Midi. I was actually really happy to have extra time to explore this charming small port city in the south of France. Not that South of France. The chi-chi one with all the fancy yachts and summer traffic jams. It’s in the Languedoc region – which is the other, less-expensive, less-fussy, south of France.  All of the charm, none of the glitz and glamour. You can spend a day on the water with a bo ..read more

Clients visiting northern Italy always want to know how to score Last Supper tickets in Milan. Unfortunately, they are notoriously hard to come by. It gets more difficult every year because so many large tour operators buy up huge blocks of tickets as soon as they go on-sale, leaving almost none for the general public to book on their own. You’ll have the best luck if you book and plan far in advance. This is the advice I give my clients for how to book tickets to the Last Supper. A FEW THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT LAST SUPPER TICKETS IN MILAN As a general rule, tickets usually go on sale fo ..read more

Renting a car and driving in Italy
Melange Travel - Savor. Italy. France

One of the most often asked questions I get from clients revolves around renting a car and driving in Italy. When traveling between big cities, I prefer to take high-speed trains; there is no reason to drive.  However, the best way to discover the smaller villages and visit off-the-beaten path locations with scenic views at your own pace is to rent a car and drive. Independent travelers visiting Italy also want to know “Do they drive on the opposite side of the road?” I’m happy to report – they do not! They drive on the same side, which makes it easier – no l ..read more

After ten years of being a carry-on traveler and coaching clients to pack light for their trips, there are certain things I’ve learned, experimented with or experienced first hand. I’ve learned to pack for all sorts of different trips. This November I’m taking another research trip to Lyon and will likely face a large range in temperatures and both sun and rain, which I’m sure will be challenging, but I’m up for it. My upcoming trip has me reflecting on my journey to simplify and pack lighter; today I’m sharing twelve things I know to be true after ten years of successfully becoming ..read more
