Kia ora, When it comes to the cyber security conversation, metaphorically speaking we may have the ladder leaning against the wrong wall! If the ladder is on the wrong wall, then our efforts are misdirected and won’t lead us to improved security. Protecting systems and data from breaches is all well and good, but every year the cost of cyber crime continues increasing. According to the latest report from CERT NZ, the agency responsible for tracking and reporting cyber security incidents, there were 7,935 reports in 2023 with $18.3 million in direct losses. According to KPMG’s 2024 ESG survey, in 2020, 50% of data leaders said the volume of data is growing faster than their organisation’s ability to keep up, which is not surprising when we see 47% of global companies still using spreadsheets. As more data becomes available with Scope 3 reporting and the onset of nature-related disclosures, these businesses will need to find more efficient ways of managing and analysing their data. A special thanks goes out to Richard from ANZ (the Platinum sponsor of this year’s FinTechNZ Hui), Jessica from Sumday (sponsor of the Innovation Zone), Josh from Cogo ..read more
