Brain changes over our lifetime.

Good 8:29 video, not going to help you recover from your stroke but will make you more knowledgeable than your doctor!  Oops, I'm not playing by the polite rules of Dale Carnegie,  'How to Win Friends and Influence People'.  Telling supposedly smart stroke medical persons they know nothing about stroke is a no-no even if it is true.  Politeness will never solve anything in stroke. Yes, I'm a bomb thrower and proud of it. Someday a stroke 'leader' will try to ream me out for making them look bad by being truthful, I look forward to that day. Well, I'm not coupled, but that isn't stopping me from enjoying drinks with female friends listening to live jazz music. And didn't your competent? doctor tell all the males in their patient load to drink with buddies twice a week? WHY NOT? Your doctor incompetently didn't know of the research or didn't follow thru? Either case is grounds for firing your doctor! Men must drink with male friends twice a week to stay healthy, study finds December 2017 The latest here: Cheers to Longevity: Couples Who Drink Together, Live Longer Summary: Couples with similar drinking habits, specifically those w ..read more

Meta-analysis: Mechanical Thrombectomy >> Medical Management for large infarct stroke! ++ functional recovery & quality-adjusted life-years PLUS more cost-effective over life. You can decide how breakthrough it is; I don't see full 100% recovery for all!  The feasibility of mechanical thrombectomy versus medical management for acute stroke with a large ischemic territory http://orcid.org/0000-0001-8797-0808Assala Aslan1, Saad Abuzahra1, Nimer Adeeb2, http://orcid.org/0009-0000-4910-6090Basel Musmar2, http ..read more

Most Post-Stroke Depression Strikes Within 5 Years
Deans' stroke musings

It is your doctor's responsibility to ABSOLUTELY INSURE that your mental health post stroke is good.  And that is only possible with 100% recovery protocols. If you don't have those protocols, you don't have a functioning stroke doctor. Depression is a secondary problem that would not exist if you had 100% recovery protocols.   Most Post-Stroke Depression Strikes Within 5 Years Cumulative depression incidence was about 60%, long-term study shows by Michael DePeau-Wilson, Enterprise & Investigative Writer, MedPage Today March 27, 2024 The vast majority of post-stroke depression ..read more

Bilingualism May Shield Against Aging Brain Problems

Darn, late life bilingualism doesn't seem to help. My attempts to learn German in grade school, high school and community ed were all failures. Now I'm working on Spanish just for traveling. Bilingualism May Shield Against Aging Brain Problems Summary: Bilingualism may serve as a powerful tool against age-related cognitive decline, particularly in social cognition areas such as the theory of mind. A new study demonstrates that early bilingualism leads to beneficial structural changes in the brain, including increased gray matter volume and cortical thickness, which contribute to a strong ..read more

Not one thing discussed here will do a damn bit of good until you finally CREATE EXACT 100% RECOVERY PROTOCOLS! It's that simple! Does no one in stroke have two functioning neurons to rub together? Sherman Lecture: Are We Aiming at the Correct Targets to Reduce Disparities in Stroke Mortality? Celebration, Reflection, and Redirection

We could probably vastly reduce disability and mortality post stroke if we stopped the 5 causes of the neuronal cascade of death in the first week. But no one in the stroke medical world seems to be working on that. And since there is NO leadership in stroke, there is no one to address this problem.   Sherman Lecture: Are We Aiming at the Correct Targets to Reduce Disparities in Stroke Mortality? Even with moderate effect, WHERE THE HELL IS THE PROTOCOL? Survivors need to know where it is so they can tell their stroke medical 'professionals' what they need to do to get them recovered. Top down has been proven not to work, most stroke medical 'professionals' seem to be completely out-of-date on stroke research!
