Wow! I got this book from my library and wanted to share. It's called "Organizing Solutions for People with ADHD" by Susan Pinsky. I got it as an ebook from Libby. I am not diagnosed with ADHD, but suspect I do have it after researching for my child. I just started this book and it already has some great tips. My partner and I have been dating for over 2 years and it’s going well. Our homes are about 40 minutes away and over the last year, I’ve hardly been at my house. He wants me to sell to move in officially and I do too. Better to sell now than things going wrong with house since I’m not there much. For most of my life, I’ve lived in a relatively small room, made smaller by my bed, desk, a shelves for clothes, books, and storage boxes that house items I still have attachments to like old artworks, other sentimental items, etc. The parting/cleaning of that will come later. My children are young, both under 5. I mention this because having young children feels like it's specifically combative to minimalism/decluttering. Also for background I have ADHD, OCD and ASD, as well as mental Illnesses. It is almost impossible to decluter my wardrobe with my mom around. She would either request checking the clothes which will take her weeks of f not months, not exaggerating here. Or complain that we always do things without getting back to her or seeking her opinion. Or she would complain that we always bring her more things to do and she is exhasted because of us. Decluttering has been a whole emotional journey for me. It's a lot of physical and emotional work and it's hard to let go of things. I find I'm now in a mental place where buying things is difficult and when people give me something as a gift I feel resentful like they put a burden on me. What I like in clothing has changed what seems like a dozen times the past few years. So I have a ton of clothing I haven't worn in years. There's also clothing I bought fairly recently that I loved at the time that I no longer enjoy. I am decluttering my closet and plan to drop off a lot of usable donations at Goodwill (I may also utilize other thrift store donation centers.). However, I have an old raincoat that no longer keeps the rain out: I remember I got soaked the last time I wore it. I have plenty of shirts that I don’t wear, either because they don’t fit me or I don’t want to get rid of them because I earned them from an event. So I know I can easily get rid of the shirts I can’t fit but I’m always in a battle with my mind that one day I lose weight to be able to wear the shirt again or because the thought of not having enough clothes will constantly run through my head.
