He Told Me That At Least I Still Had Cheekbones

It was the last week of June 2011 and I was approximately 8 million weeks pregnant. (Or 37 weeks…but, I swear her head felt like a 10 lb bowling ball that was seconds away from dropping out of my body, so it felt like 8 million weeks.). It was a sweltering day and I’d been sitting in my car outside of a photography studio waiting to go in for my ‘viewing’ of our maternity photos. I didn’t want to go in and pretend I wasn’t sweating while sitting in an overstuffed leather love seat and view anything. A few weeks before, we’d arrived at that same photo&nbs ..read more

UPDATE May 11: These sessions are fully booked for now. As the economy continues to open and we know that it will remain open, I’ll be releasing more sessions in batches. If you’d like to stay up to date on when sessions released, please join my mailing list. – Kelly What a few months it has been, right? These truly are unprecedented times and we’re all learning how to deal with it one day at a time. After not being able to shoot any sessions for the last 8 weeks, I’m excited that as of May 14th, I’ll be able to re-commence outdoor sessions. Let’s spend time together doing the things you and y ..read more

I can so vividly remember being pregnant for the first time and attempting to hold my pants together with a hair elastic for months until my belly made it very obvious that maternity clothes were a necessity. It was on a snowy Saturday that my Mom and I went on an adventure to find me a new wardrobe. We visited all the chain stores and then ended the day at Yo Mama Maternity, and it was at Yo Mama that I found my very favourite maternity staples that held me through 2 pregnancies (which happened to be a few tank tops and leggings that I wore LONG past being pregnant!). I’ve since been lucky en ..read more

It was a snowstorm in late April. One where it had snowed huge, wet flakes overnight and I looked out the window and wondered to myself why we live here. It was during that late April snowstorm that I met this lovely family, and is perhaps proof that good things can come from bad weather! When I pulled up to their cute little early 1900s house in Westmount I might have just smiled to myself knowing the beautiful nooks and crannies of light that were going to be in that house. We chatted over hot Starbucks about the plan for their session (keep it casual and have fun!), and how excited big sist ..read more

Being invited to document pregnancy AND newborn adventures for a family is something special. It’s my favourite part of this job because I know I’m handing over photos that tell a more complete story. When little Kade is old enough, he’s going to be able to look back and see the joy his parents had waiting for him to arrive and the love in their eyes when they looked at him after he was Earth side. Sherwood Park Maternity Photographer Fun fact about this maternity session….the day we got together to take maternity photos it was about -30C outside (no joke). We’d planned on doing half the mater ..read more

Last spring I partnered with Yo Mama Maternity to show a few examples of what to wear for your maternity and newborn session using stylish maternity & breastfeeding clothing. That blog post has been super popular, so this year we decided to do it again, but amped up our game slightly with real life moms and moms-to-be as our models. Clothing for your maternity or newborn photo session doesn’t have to be complicated and should be a reflection of style. You can’t go wrong with leggings and a long tunic, or skinny jeans and a sweater. After all, we’re capturing what your real life looks ..read more

This Was 2016 | Edmonton Photographer

I tend to compartmentalize my work. I work on one session, deliver it, and then move onto the next, so to see Fiddle Leaf Photography work that spanned a whole year all in just over a minute makes me super emotional. At the end of 2015 I made quite a few changes in my business (new focus and new pricing) and I was both excited and scared to see what 2016 was going to bring. What it brought though is SO MANY new and returning families, and some pretty incredible moments that I was lucky enough to be a part of. Those first days at home, lazy Saturday mornings, the quiet moments while nourishing ..read more

Dear first time Mama-to-be, I’m writing this to you not only as a friend, but as a woman who has been there. I see you there. On the days when you think you can’t possibly be this lucky. To feel the life within and the instant, overwhelming, all-consuming love that comes with it. I see you. On the days that the love becomes terrifying and the weight of what is about to change occupies your every thought. I see you. On the days when all you really want to do is eat a DQ Blizzard (NOT snack size!) while sitting in a hot bath. I see you. On the days that you feel completely in synch wi ..read more

Edmonton Maternity Photographers We were sitting at their kitchen table, with their yellow lab Benny nudging at my leg, when they told me they’d been married just 3 feet away from me. Standing together in their kitchen, solidifying a romance that proves love actually can travel the world to find its match. She’s from Russia, he’s from Brazil, and they met while completing their PhDs in Tennessee. What are the odds? The odds are probably slim, but that is what makes this love story such a good one. Together they’ve made Edmonton their home (ask either of them, it’s COLD Edmonton to them!), and ..read more

What to Wear For Your Maternity & Newborn Photos | Edmonton Newborn Photographer

White shirts and blue jeans. Mom, Dad, kiddos. Everyone. All in a line and smiling at the camera. The hair is shellacked and there smiles are a bit too forced. I’ll let that image (it’s probably from the 90s) sink into your brain for a moment. Ok. Now let’s push it far, far away. Why, you ask? Because when I’m sitting in your living room with you for your pre-session consult and we start talking about what to wear, one of the first things I’ll ask is to please not all match in white shirts and blue jeans. Coordinating – yes. Matching – no. I’m guessing if I popped into ..read more
