First solo trip - Mexico

Hi everyone, just looking for some advice! I've booked a 3 week solo trip to Mexico over May/June, coming from the UK and I've never been before. My flight is a return to Mexico City. I am 26F and have been on other short backpacking trips in Asia but never alone before. I will be staying mostly in hostels and will have a budget of around £50/day. I was thinking of staying around 3 nights in Mexico City initially and then probably booking a flight to Cancun. I'll stay in Tulum (I've heard quite negative things but it seems a good place to be based to explore the cenotes and Mayan ruins?) and ..read more

Mexico Itinerary Critique?

Hi! I (19M) am headed to Mexico, from SE Asia, in about a week where I’ve got around 18-20 days. I’m trying to come up with an itinerary but it feels like there’s so much you can do, the greater I search the more lost I feel. That being said, I think I’ve narrowed it down: Mexico City - 4 nights I’m not normally a massive city fan but I’ll need a couple days here to rest, plus I consistently see this described as having a ton to do, being an amazing highlight etc Oaxaca - 3 nights The food is the main thing I’m coming here for, but I also think the smaller village-vibe will be a welcome break ..read more

If you had to skip one city for a Bolivia trip, which would you choose, out of: Sucre, Potosi, and Cochabamba

Due to time restrictions we are probably going to have to drop one of these places on our way through Bolivia. Out of the three which would you least recommend/wouldn't mind skipping if you had to? submitted by /u/expiredlemon3 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hello, me and my friend are backpacking the alps for a hiking trip later this year. We’ve got most of the trip sorted but want to spend some time at the end exploring the coast of Italy. We’re not sure where to go though, we’re looking for the lush beautiful places to go as a rest after the long hiking journey. Any suggestions would be massively beneficial, thanks! submitted by /u/saulsulway [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Distance backpacking with collarbone hardware

Hey gang. I know it’s a long shot but I’m wondering if anyone out there has had the collarbone plates and screws and has had any success with bigger distances and heavier packs. I’ve kinda limited myself over the past few years to under 40lb packs n trips so that I don’t stand to irritate it, but want to get back into the big stuff soon. Anyone who has had this type of injury and success please let me know. Thanks! submitted by /u/scrummaster365 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Just bought the copper spur ul2 from someone used. Its an old model that has seemingly been replaced with the copper spur u2 HV. Anyone know if the footprint for the UL2 HV is compatible with the UL2? I cannot find a way to purchase a footprint for the UL2 so wanted to see if the new versions was compatible (event though the tents have a minor difference in dimensions. submitted by /u/Sketchdudeonabike [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Guatemala/Peru (Salkantay trail)

Hello I am 26F from the UK and have a few months off until I start a new job. I was thinking of spending 6 weeks in South America (mainly as my mental health is in the pits and I need an escape), leaning towards Guatemala and Peru. I have the Guatemala itinerary kind of sorted, I am a bit confused about the Salkantay trail. I suffer from quite bad altitude sickness so want to spend at least 3 days acclimatising in Cusco. Is the sacred valley and rainbow mountain all based around Cusco, can I do them whilst acclimatising? Also, I would it be advisable to book the trail in advance or better to ..read more

Question- Sawyer Squeeze
Reddit | World Travel Backpacking

Hello, Quick question regarding the Sawyer Squeeze water system. So I know that many people choose to utilize the Sawyer Squeeze filter on top of a smart water bottle instead of the Sawyer bag. Regarding back flushing, I have seen that some people use the smart water sports cap to back flush the filter because the sports cap fits well into the inlet on the Sawyer filter. My question is does this not contaminate the sports cap on the 'clean' smart water bottle? If you are using your clean sports cap to back flush the filter does it not get the sports cap dirty since the filter is dirty? Thanks ..read more
