I’ve never been one ahead of the curve, so it’s fitting that I should grab the hottest ticket in town on its third rodeo in London, this time at The Gillian Lynne Theatre. It is playing for a limited season of only 17 weeks, so you haven’t even really got time to read this post – just whizz over there and book a ticket now. What is The Lehman Trilogy about? On a cold September morning in 1844, a young man from Bavaria stands on a New York dockside dreaming of a new life in the new world. He is joined by his two brothers, and an American epic begins. 163 years later, the firm they establish ..read more

The Wife of Willesden at Kiln Theatre, Kilburn

What can I say. If you have read any of the reviews of Zadie Smith’s incredible adaptation of Chaucer’s 600 year old The Wife of Bath, then this rave will sure not come as a surprise. The staging, to begin, is extraordinary. Robert Jones has designed the space at Kiln Theatre and transformed it from ‘theatre auditorium’ to pub, complete with audience members sitting at tables ‘cabaret’ style, with bottles clinking, a mouthy publican and an expectation that someone is about to yell ‘Get outa my pub!” The atmosphere is fizzy and you FEEL like you’ve arrived in a proper old local and you should ..read more

Earlier this year I explored the Brookfield Properties Art Trail, which saw me scampering all over the city, discovering all kinds of wonderful pieces and installations, created by artists celebrating themes of pride, queer existence, dynamics within Black communities and many more… This Winter, Brookfield Properties have launched their IlluminoCity Light Festival, which was created in response to a recent report they commissioned – The Art of The Workplace. The report revealed that arts and culture have the ability to transform the way people feel at work. The art itself can transform t ..read more

‘Parade!’ – Anna Lomax Over the years, working in The City has often seemed synonymous with extremely long hours and having no fun – a real daily grind. A kind of rush rush rush, head down and no time for lunch vibe. However, more recently there have been some big changes in the Square Mile and Brookfield Properties seem to be blazing a trail to change the way we view and interact with spaces in the City of London. Brookfield Properties are one of London’s largest commercial developers and landlords. They bring their urban indoor and outdoor spaces to life through art and culture, with the aim ..read more

I remember the first time I fell upon the William Morris Gallery. I couldn’t quite believe that it existed here, in Walthamstow, just a short stroll from my front door. The stunning grade II listed Georgian house was built in the 1740s and was William Morris’s family home from 1848 – 1856. It is the […] The post My Christmas Edit of the William Morris Gallery Shop (and receive 20% off my selected items!) first appeared on Poppy Loves :: London Lifestyle Blog ..read more

Oh, hello. The art of craft has always been something that inspires me. I marvel at handifolk doing clever things with all manner of materials. And although crafting has had somewhat of a resurgence over the past few years, I can’t help but feel that there are some older, traditional and more unusual crafts that are in […] The post First Endangered & Rare Crafts Weekend first appeared on Poppy Loves :: London Lifestyle Blog ..read more

Last week I had the great fortune of being invited to Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich. They’ve recently introduced Kids Go Free tickets (kids = up to 16!) and so I and a few other mums and dads descended for a delicious sunshine-drenched riverside picnic in their grounds and a very special tour of […] The post A picnic, bowling and 'Britain's Sistine Chapel' (Oh, and kids go free!) first appeared on Poppy Loves :: London Lifestyle Blog ..read more
