Hi, I live near Chur in Graubunden and am very keen to learn how to paraglide this summer. I don't speak German yet, so am looking for a course in English. Ideally I'd like to do an intensive two week course and then do the remaining training flights as an when, most likely at weekends. Can anyone recommend a flight school in this part of Switzerland? The recommendations I've seen so far were for places in the south. I found Air Davos but they haven't responded to my emails. On the SHV website there's loads of listings in the area (e.g. in Pizol, Flumserberg etc) but the websites are entirely ..read more

Low wind dune flying

What would you consider to be possible as really low wind dune flying? Do you think you can fly a something like a ozone delta in 10km/u wind, or will it not be worth doing unless it’s 15km/u + submitted by /u/Flying_donkey356 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Light H&F Harness

Hi, I'm putting together a lightweight kit for and H&F, and struggling a bit with harness choice. So it seems, it's either light reversible harness such as: Supair Radical 4 Swing Brave 4 Level Fusion v3 Advance Easiness 3 ...or a string harness (I don't really see much difference in those, the only thing I care about is "balls comfort") + any hiking backpack I choose. Another thing I need from the harness is soaring coast / dunes in low altitude (no reserve) + maybe some beginner proximity flying. Any tips, hints, experiences much appreciated, thank you submitted by /u/skratlo [visit ..read more

Paragliding - Inner Ear Infection

Hi all, Have tandem paragliding flight booked in a few days but have been put on a course of Antibiotics last week for ear pain, likely due to an infection that has been going on for about a month. I’ve had to spend the weekend travelling over mountains and have dealt with my ears popping. No issues. Dr indicated it should clear up before the flight, but how likely is the danger of an eardrum rupture in this sport? We are likely to by flying for about 30 minutes at best. Plus windbreaker jacket on. But don’t want to cause irreversible damage and will cancel if needed. submitted by /u/Vatican ..read more

Ankle Support?

Hello- I am traveling to Bulgaria in a couple of weeks for lessons. One of the school’s suggestions was shoes with ankle support, like hiking boots. I understand there will be a lot of walking up hills at a ski area, is that why I need ankle support, the hiking or is it something to do with landing? I have some trail shoes that I love and I know I would be happy with trecking around a slope. submitted by /u/danmurse [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Goodyear Inflatoplane (1957)

i was going through some history videos, then i passed by the good year inflatoplane project. apparently it was cancelled cuz the wing folded in the first crash, and the wire came loose from the pully on the second crash. i feel like this idea is completely groundbreaking but wasnt worked on enough, what if they added supports to the wings, and made a fail proof pulley system? in the wiki it mentions a maximum height of 10,000 ft and 100kph. genuinely i dont see why they didnt continue with the inflatoplane especially since it would be much cheaper than a Piper J-3cub submitted by /u/Despera ..read more

No, I don't mean reading a book during a XC flight :) Have some travel ahead of me, so if anyone has any recommendations for long articles or video essays or meteorology analyses or in depth flight planning (preferably at least 30 mins long, even longer is better), please post here! submitted by /u/No_Aide_69 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Pretty much what the title says. Family wants to have some fun at the beach, Dad wants to sneak out a few times to soar (beginner). Dog is involved, too. Any suggestions that aren’t too expensive? submitted by /u/ReimhartMaiMai [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
