Acuity helps identify both non-contact solution and upgrade investment justification for copper bar manufacturer Acuity recently helped another customer out with a cut-to-length application. This customer was looking to upgrade their current cut-to-length measurement process. The customer’s current process was using a tape measure to measure lengths of the copper bar before using a shear to cut the copper bar to specific lengths. During more discussions with the customer, the Acuity team learned about the application. The copper bar lengths ranged from 300 to 4000 mm and the accuracy expectat ..read more

We want to show you something we’re currently making for one of our customers. This company has dump trucks bringing materials into one of their buildings, but when the drivers dump their load, they don’t always remember to lower the dump box back into position before trying to drive out. After some costly repairs they came to us for help. They asked if our laser sensors could be used to warn the forgetful drivers before they hit the building. We said, “sure we can.” This is our AR1000 Laser Distance Sensor. It can measure up to 30 meters on natural targets with an accuracy of three millimeter ..read more

Thickness Measurement of Continuous Thermoplastic Composite Sheet Line

An engineering company was using a handheld micrometer — a contact form of thickness measurement —  to measure the thickness of their continuous thermoplastic composite sheet line. But the company was seeing thickness variability from person-to-person due to the pressure they applied, and this was resulting in incorrect thickness readings. The customer was looking for a more reliable and faster thickness measurement solution for their polyethylene based composite sheet, so they reached out to the Acuity Team to find a laser system instead. This type of application is very common for the ..read more

A worldwide manufacturer of copper round stock wire and copper strips was looking to find a new solution for their copper thickness measurement. The company was currently using a diamond tip touch probe system, a contact form of measurement, to measure the thickness of the strips. But the manufacturer’s very old contact gauges were becoming obsolete and increasingly difficult to get. The company was also looking to use this time to upgrade their system and find a non-contact solution to measure their copper strip thickness, with material thickness ranging from 0.030” to 0.050”. Their enginee ..read more
