I want to extend my sincerest gratitude for affording my students the opportunity to experience this amazing program. The Walking Classroom is an exceptional addition to our daily activities.  I cannot tell you how truly excited and motivated my students are to go on our walks each week. I teach third, fourth, and fifth grade students. Every single day the first thing I hear upon entering the classroom is, “Are we walking today?!”   The pure elation is heard in cries of excitement when I confirm that we are, indeed, heading out for a walk. And when I have to break the bad news t ..read more

I teach fourth grade students in an urban community just outside of Washington, DC. The students have been designated Gifted and Talented by way of assessment data, teacher recommendations, and parent surveys. However, our program is under-funded. The Walking Classroom has been an eye opener into how my students think and feel about the topics provided. It is a wonderful resource, allowing my diverse classroom, which is mostly boys, to walk outside and get fresh air in nature during instructional time.   For many of my students, recess and The Walking Classroom are their only op ..read more

Following the step-by-step introduction helped build our program participants’ excitement about The Walking Classroom.  They couldn’t wait to get started!   Our program participants love to go outside, especially since they are able to walk around a nearby park where they normally don’t go.  We started this program in the middle of winter and look forward to the spring and warmer weather to when they can sit in the park and discuss the podcast of the day.    By listening to the podcast a second time, they realize there is more information that they missed the ..read more

Water Cycle Podcast is a Favorite!
The Walking Classroom

I teach fifth grade science. This year our favorite Walking Classroom podcast was Water Cycle (4-#30, STEM-#12, Complete-#148).   To begin our unit on this topic, we read Drop: The Adventure through the Water Cycle by Emily Kate Moon. We then utilized the podcast to dig deeper into the content and hear more of the vocabulary used through the podcast.   When we finished the podcast, we completed The Walking Classroom’s ready-made quizzes to review what we had learned! Lastly, we played the free online water cycle game suggested as a resource.   This was such an ama ..read more

Our middle school of 405 students is located in Carpinteria, California. The thirty-five students (grades 6-8) who attend our after school program, the Expanded Learning Program, are from low-income homes and receive breakfast and lunch at school.  These students need a safe place to be after school until parents can pick them up. Our ExLP is that place! We provide academic support as well as fun activities for these students to participate in. The Walking Classroom provides not only a healthy choice for their bodies, but also a healthy choice for their minds.   The Walking ..read more

Once I received The Walking Classroom, I was very excited about the opportunity to introduce it to my classes. I got started with The Walking Classroom with my fifth grade classes. They were very enthusiastic about the program.   The fifth graders covered figurative language, starting with Idioms (4-#7, 5-#3, Complete-#3) and Superheroes and Villains of Writing (4-#35, Complete-#42). Before we started walking, I had the students take a pretest on the subject and after we finished walking, they took the test. They nailed it!   With my fourth graders, we started by getting re ..read more

TWC is Perfect for Meeting Our Needs
The Walking Classroom

I am a fourth grade teacher that teaches math to third through fifth graders. I also have a 30-minute class at the end of the day to teach language arts. Our school is rural and in the mountains. Our weather doesn’t permit a lot of time outside and most of us are ready to go home by the last 30 minutes, so The Walking Classroom is perfect for meeting all of the needs for language arts and movement!   I saw that a teacher in a neighboring county got The Walking Classroom and became interested in getting the program for our school too. Once we received the program at our school, w ..read more

West Park Place Elementary School has been utilizing The Walking Classroom since the beginning of the school year with some of our third, fourth, and fifth grade students. They absolutely love it!   Every day when they enter my classroom, they ask if we are listening to a podcast and heading out for a walk. There is a great selection of podcasts available, and we are able to tie in some of our curriculum with the amazing podcast lessons!   I cannot express how useful and helpful these lessons have been in our learning this school year. I actually presented The Walking Class ..read more

A Difference Academically and Behaviorally
The Walking Classroom

Hello fellow educators!  I have been using The Walking Classroom for a few months now and I can attest to the difference it has made not only academically, but behaviorally as well.    My school is a Title I school with 70% free and reduced lunch.  Sadly, our students’ school breakfast and lunch often consists of low carb, low nutritional value foods.  For instance, each morning, students get a muffin and sometimes the lunch that day is pancakes, bosco sticks, or even worse, donuts and french toast sticks. It is very sad to think that my students do not have healt ..read more

My fifth-graders love walking while they listen and learn with their WalkKits! They often ask, “Are we walking and learning today?”   The Walking Classroom’s lesson plans are helpful and easy to use. I like that the lessons seamlessly correspond with the fifth-grade standards—everything from language arts and social studies to science. The Walking Classroom has designed an excellent program, and it’s easy to implement.  As I teach lessons, I look at the list of the 160+ podcasts, separated by subject, and choose one that aligns with my teaching. The lesson plans include the podc ..read more
