Just made my little note of the things he's eaten today and realised they all being with C! Croissant, cucumber stick, chip, courgette polpette (recipe from the River Cottage Baby and Toddler Cookbook) Ross was at home for breakfast this morning and as we were having croissants I thought I'd let Alexander try some too! Out for lunch with a friend so I gave him one of my chips to try - it's worth noting the pub we were in  does home made chunky chips (fries for US friends) so it was more like a roast potato rather than a greasy chip. The Courgette polpette used to be a hit with Annabel ..read more

Today was quite rushed in the morning as we all had to get up, washed, dressed etc by 9 (we failed it was more like half past 9) in order to leave the house to go over to South Wales for my parent's Ruby wedding anniversary. Annabel had the standard "we're in a rush and need to leave the house breakfast" of a mini soreen loaf, 2 bananas (she loves them!) and an apple. We didn't have time to sit and watch Alexander eat so he skipped this part of the day. We arrived in Wales and went over to the pub for the buffet! We do love a good buffet! I picked up a plate of things I thought he might like ..read more

Day 15/16 - Fri & Sat - Spag Bol!!

Friday (or Funday Friday as we call it in our house) morning is always a bit hectic. Chores to do before Annabel's Mini professors class so no time to give him "breakfast". At lunch time we went into my work for a baby shower! Annabel had a little packed lunch so I offered Alexander a bit of apricot from that! After a few more chores on the high street (which included a trip to the local butcher for some fresh mince beef) we returned home so I could cook up a tasty spag bol for Annabel and Alexander.  To make it Alexander friendly I used a low salt stock cube. I also chopped up the s ..read more

Two days to catch up here. Bear with me! Wed morning bit busy as I had an appointment so first offering of food wasn't until 11 ish. I decided to try banana again but in a different form - cutting some of the skin off and making it a bit like a lolly. Interestingly I think he actually swallowed some of this as his poo had black threadlike worms in it this morning! I would have taken a picture but I didn't have my phone with me when I was getting him dressed. Next time I will try and get a picture! I also tried him with some kiwi fruit. I basically just peeled it and put it on his tray! Then ..read more

Day 12 - Tuesday - and an overview of BLW theory

Didn't post last night as I had Rock Choir! Oh yes, I am a rockie! Before I go into what he ate on Tuesday I wanted to give a quick over view of baby led weaning. Mainly becuase I see the same questions coming up on forums and I think understanding the theory will help. I would highly recommend looking up the Baby Led Weaning Cookbook by Gill Rapley because this goes into more detail - but basically: Baby Led Weaning is: - Offering solid foods to your baby and letting them explore / taste them at their own pace - A great way to introduce your baby to the food you as a family eat normally - A ..read more

Day 11 - Does he love it or hate it?

I'm on nursery duty as Ross is working away so this morning I had to offer food after the nursery run.  I decided that as I was having some toast I'd offer him some too - with Marmite! I don't like marmite - but Annabel used to love it. Apparently babies do like strong flavours... I'm not sure if he liked it - I'll let you be the judge!! ** this is what gagging looks like - he was making grunting noises and was going red so I wasn't too worried. Lots of slobber and coughing involved and he spat the semi chewed/sucked piece out. ** I found some reduced Butternu ..read more

Day 10 - baby led weaning - early days!

Today was a typical lazy family Sunday - bit of shopping but mainly hanging around the house / local park watching films and playing games. For "breakfast" I offered some more porridge as he had some milk left over. Again I preloaded the spoon and offered it to him. I did this about 4 times - then he started to smash the porridge around and drop the spoon more times than he actually gummed it. So I took this a cue to stop and clean him up! Once all the porridge had been removed I offered him a strawberry. *TOP TIP ALERT* use a straw to pick through/out the top of the strawberry. T ..read more

Exciting morning for me - I got to have 3 hours off from being a parent! Admittedly I did have to spend some of that time running a 5k race...  (Run the Rainbow for Prospect Hospice) oh the things I'll do for a bit of peace! Because I was out and Daddy was in charge of getting both kids to the finish line to support me and he feels more confident with BLW after the initial gagging faze is over - there was no "breakfast" offered. We are literally in the first week though so its no big deal if 3 "meals" a day aren't offered! It is trickier to do BLW and watch a toddler so having 2 pairs ..read more

Apologies I forgot my keyboard so creating posts was awkward. Also as I hadn't really planned to start BLW this week I wasn't fully prepared so didn't offer him anything the last two days. However! Tuesday and Wednesday he did try some things. *TOP TIP ALERT* When prepping veg and fruit as finger foods you can use a crinkle cutter to give the edge a wobbly shape - this can help them to grasp the thing you are offering! Per the below example of melon! He actually managed to get a bit of melon off which stayed in his mouth after I had checked for pieces. About 30 seconds ..read more
