Winter Wedding at The Boulders

We wrapped up our 2023 wedding season “early” for us with a mid-December winter wedding at the Boulders, one of our favorite venues in all of Colorado. From the very first meeting I had with Meredythe and Robert, two things were clear: They work hard and they play hard. The working hard part was more obvious in the lead up to the wedding. Typically, during my first timeline call with a couple, I expect to have a lot of outstanding items that we need to finalize. But after creating my first draft of their timeline, I realized that due to their attention to detail and careful planning, we didn ..read more

Bishop Castle Wedding

Ok, so maybe Sarah and Joe didn’t exactly have a Bishop Castle wedding (you can check out their wedding blog post here), but we would love to capture someone getting married there, so this is us putting it out into the Google-sphere! When I first talked to Sarah and Joe on the phone, they described themselves as “alt goth.” So not exactly the emo goth we all knew in high school. Instead, they’re drawn toward an more elegant macabre aesthetic. Which means that when they talked about doing a post-wedding session at a castle, I knew exactly where to take them. Tucked away just past the tiny mou ..read more

Well, we had a bit of a busy fall and winter with weddings, teaching and travel, so get ready for a fall and winter wedding blog tsunami! Starting with Sarah and Joe’s “alt gothic” Villa Parker wedding. Sarah and Joe’s first look is probably in my top ten list of Best First Looks of All Time. I love first looks for several reasons. They obviously help us create a more relaxed timeline and give couples a chance to spend some quality time together on the wedding day without feeling like they’re being pulled in a million different directions. But I also love them because wedding preparation can ..read more

Astrophotography Engagement Session

Sometimes we have couples who come to us for an Alt Session because they have a very specific idea of what they want to do and they haven’t found anyone else who could bring their idea to life. This was the case with Jenn and Phil’s astrophotography engagement session. And it might be one of the biggest compliments we could possibly get, because it means that we’re continually pushing the bounds of what engagement photography looks like…and that people like it! Jenn and Phil wanted two things for their engagement session: the Great Sand Dunes and star photos – which also happen to be two of ..read more

In October of 2022, Jesse and I were at home with a rare weekend off from weddings in what’s typically our busiest month of the season. I was doing what I’m currently doing now and catching up on writing blog posts. Jesse was sequestered in his editing cave. And we both got a notification on our phones of an email from Carolyn and Logan asking if we could chat about possibly covering their Telluride elopement the following year. I don’t always remember where I was when a couple first reaches out, but I do for Carolyn and Logan’s Telluride elopement for two reasons. First, we were already fam ..read more

It’s that time of year again when we take a moment to look back at our best wedding photos of 2023. All of our shoots were spread evenly throughout the year this year, starting with Morgan and Brad’s beautiful nighttime wedding at the Denver Botanic Gardens on January 7th to Meredythe and Robert’s winter wedding at Black Canyon Inn on December 16th. The latter also marked our 15th wedding at BCI, which officially makes is our most frequently photographed venue of all time. On the flip side of that coin, we also had the pleasure of working in some brand new locations for the very first time. We ..read more

After Tyler & Landon’s huge blowout celebration at the end of September, we switched gears for October, starting with Jovanka & Alex’s intimate Sunrise Amphitheater wedding in Boulder. Jovanka is a bride after my own heart, starting wedding planning two years in advance. When she first reached out, the wedding she and Alex were thinking of looked very different. There were more guests, a bigger venue, and a lot more moving parts. But two years is a lot of time to think about what you really want from your wedding. So part of the way through planning, they decided to make some big cha ..read more
