Have you ever wondered about the moon?Wondered why it seems to change shape?Wondered what the moon surface is like? B4 have been finding out about the moon. This week we talked about the craters on the moon. We did an experiment to find out how the different-sized craters may have formed. We used a tray of flour as the moon's surface, and dropped a variety of balls onto it. At our school we believe that homework should relate specifically to the learning that happens in our classrooms.  Each term we try to have an interactive homework task that children and parents can work on together. Our recent Social Sciences learning involved reviewing our Enviroschool projects that we did last year to improve our school environment. As part of this, the homework task was to make bug hotels. Bug motels can encourage beneficial insects into our gardens. Here are our amazing bug hotels! What are your favourite bugs? How can bugs help us ..read more

As part of our science work on Fish, we walked to our river to think about fish habitats. In our river we have trout and eels.We also wanted to see how people may have changed the river and possibly affected the fish habitats. Would some fish like the shallow, swift parts of the river? We checked out a stream that flows into the river Would some fish like the deep, shadowy parts of the river? Fifty years ago, this part of the river was a deep swimming hole. Now it has filled with silt and stones.Would the fish swim here? Could landslides affect the fish in the river? Sometimes the riv ..read more

As an Enviro school we have been learning about our school's landscape, and how we can maintain our landscape for future generations. We thought about, discussed and planned what we think our school's landscape needs, for the benefit of our school community. We have a bush area at school that we haven't been able to play in. The class decided that a good project would be to prune and tidy the undergrowth which might lead to students being able to safely play in the space. To prepare, the class practised using a variety of gardening tools safely, and finally we got to put our ideas into action ..read more
