A beginning.  We met our boy’s dad and his wife on Saturday. As I mentioned in my previous post, we’ve been in contact via email and Skype regularly since September and intermittently and anonymously prior to that. But Saturday was our first kanohi ki te kanohi (face to face) meeting. It was amazing. So truly special. All of the contact we had beforehand meant that our son was familiar with them to some extent and it was all just perfect. One incredible thing was that Matua (his dad) gave him a woolen jumper (pull over) that he had been hanging onto since he was a teenager! It was basical ..read more

I need to update you all but am thieving the wife’s data as I ran out and my billing cycle ends on the 18th! I’m going to try and keep this brief but it’s a long story… So I alluded in my recent ‘I’m back’ post to the fact that we are close with our donor. Here’s the low down – back when we selected him (as an anonymous donor through our fertility clinic who indicated in his profile that he was ‘willing to have contact’) we found out that he and his wife had been through the fertility process but had been unable to have children   So we entered into this donor / recipient relationship kno ..read more

Dear people,  I suck! I forgot to tell you that we got a stink old HPT white BFN on Saturday and on Sunday so I didn’t have any high hopes for the beta – which was of course negative. So yeah, still waiting for my period thanks to the progesterone supplements.  We now have to wait till February as my next ovulation will happen while the clinic is closed for a summer break. I was actually super super bummed but since the progesterone is wearing off I feel a bit less emotional!  Plus we have an exciting event happening on Sat that I’ll blog about soon…  Oh and my thyroid has ..read more

(I just found this in my drafts folder from 18 Nov 2015 so will publish it as is so it’s in my records.) I’m sorry for my absence from this space. I’ve been following along on my Reader when I get a moment and even making the rare comment too. But have not taken the time to sit down and really write. Of course I now wish I’d written often here so I’d have a record of those heady, crazy, amazing, exhausting early days. But I didn’t so I should stop worrying about what I’ve already forgotten!  My only regrets of this entire period have been not writing down how I’ve felt. However I’ve taken ..read more

Well it certainly helps having a full on 17.5mth old in your life when TTC. I’m 9dpiui (& I just had to think about that!) and I have barely had time to think about my puku (belly) once a day if I’m lucky. I went and did the progesterone bloods yesterday and they look good – but of course I’m on progesterone pessaries so that will be contributing. I’m also aware that any potential symptoms I feel can be caused by the supplement. Plus I’m breastfeeding – so my boobs get achy when they are full. I have noticed my nipples being more sensitive – but again…progesterone supplement? I’m apparentl ..read more

Oh dear I think it’s going to be a bit like this … IUI was on Sunday and here I am filling you in on Tuesday morning! We did the trigger HCG shot on Friday at 10pm for a 10am Sunday IUI…but our boy had a FPIES reaction to it!  After we did the shot we went to bed, the boy woke to be fed at 2am & 6am & then started reacting around 8am.  We couldn’t work out why he was wailing and crying & not letting us put him down for a couple of hours so I fed him again at 8.30am and again to sleep at 9.30am . Thought he was getting yet another flu (he’s had 2 recently)!  But then ..read more

I know – I’m one of those terrible bloggers who disappeared! It’s been an amazing and wonderful and hard 17mths (tomorrow!) since our beautiful boy landed in our world. We’ve been dealing with an unusual and intense food allergy FPIES (Food Protein Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome) since he was 6mths old. So that’s been the hard bit and one of the major reasons I never had the energy to get back online to blog. My world has been full of FPIES Facebook support pages, recipes, cooking single wholefoods from scratch for each meal etc. There’s no testing for what he will be allergic too (as a reacti ..read more

Hi Mama’s, can you all let me know your vote for a breastfeeding app? Things we need are: Track timing of feeds Easy to see in the dark  Not too many buttons – easy to stop, pause etc Able to amend timing post freed and add in previously done ones Can also record expressed milk feed times and amounts Easily synced across devices (android & iPhone)  We’ve want to buy the app & have been trialling FeedBaby & like the features and the ‘user interface’ (techy wife’s terms) – it basically does all we want but we are having trouble synching it across our two phones.  So we ..read more

He’s here! Our beautiful, long awaited son arrived after a long labour last Saturday the 27th of June at 5.43pm. I will eventually get round to updating on here, and I know many of you whom I’m friends with on Facebook will have seen my update, but I thought I had better jump online while I had 5mins to announce his arrival. Quickest way is to paste my (edited) Facebook post… Toku and I are delighted to let you know that ‘Manu Pō’ (Night Bird as he sounds like a nocturnal bird we have here), was welcomed on Saturday afternoon, 27th June. Weighing 8lb, 2oz & 55cm long. Nearly born at home i ..read more
