Executive Summary Prebuilt starter websites save time Popularity ensures many people can help if needed Premium plugins not needed Annual support reasonable Buy Avada #AD Prebuilt Starter Websites I’ve been a long-term user of Genesis themes. Ever since Studio Press changed their business model, I started rethinking that strategy. In the past, if you had the all-themes subscription, you could find a child theme that came pretty close to the look and feel you were going for. Now, unless you get a different subscription, those options are limited. I’ve also to a lesser extent ha ..read more

Why I’m Switching from OptimizePress to Thrive Themes
My Bonus Blog

I have been a huge fan of OptimizePress over the years. I started with OP 1.0 using it as the theme for my DAP membership sites. Their member area pages were great with a built in member navigation sidebar. Then when OP 2.0 came out with a separate plugin (not just a theme), I jumped on board to use it for many of my sales and landing pages. Old Version Abandonment Trouble really began several months after 2.0 came out as it became clear that OP was abandoning the earlier version. I overlooked the pain of not being able to convert from 1.0 to 2.0. After all, it was an entirely different struc ..read more

Shopify to Stop Maintaining WordPress Plugin
My Bonus Blog

Last year, I wrote a post about how to sell products on your blog using the Shopify Buy Button service. At the end of April, Shopify notified its customers that they no longer would be maintaining the WordPress plugin. As we all know, once a developer stops maintaining a plugin, it’s time to find a different plugin or a different way. So does that mean you can no longer use this service to sell products on your blog?  The good news is that you can still use the Shopify Buy Button service. Here’s how to set it up without the plugin. Step 1. Log into your Shopify dashboard and select Buy B ..read more

I am so sad to report that Andy Bailey, developer of CommentLuv, the premier comment and spam busting plugin, has closed the doors due to poor health. Andy has been very public about his health issues and recently decided that he could no longer provide support for the plugin. Andy is one of the good guys in the WordPress community and his battle with MS starting in 2012 has been brave and admirable. Unfortunately, the disease has progressed to the point he could no longer offer his thousands of customers the service and quality product they had come to expect. So now what? Although the plugin ..read more

Did you know that you could turn your WordPress blog or website into a Shopify store with just a simple plugin? I didn’t either until recently. I wanted to sell some items that I normally sell on Amazon on a brand website that I built mostly for promoting the brand – not really expecting to sell much. So I didn’t want to incur a huge monthly fee for an ecommerce store or set up a complicated shopping cart like Woo Commerce or Cart66. The answer was Shopify’s simple “Buy Button” service for less than $10 per month. You simply put your products into your Shopify inventory, configure some setting ..read more
