To give some background: Have 2 kids and have been SAHD for almost 7 years. Second child will be starting school full time in the fall. I work a part time job, work 30 hours a week. Wife works very hard 55+ hours a week so I do all the cleaning, house maintenance, yard work, cooking, shopping, errands, laundry, etc. Numerous friends and family keep mentioning to me how much free time I will have once my second kid goes to school in the fall. I mostly just shrug it off and mention that I still have to work. The statement just bothers me and I feel like it's a stereotype SAHD or SAHM get once t ..read more

Wife A Little... Thoughtless

Am I (39m) overthinking being casually called insulting things by my wife (35f)? I was carrying my kid to bed after getting home from a drive and couldn't feel the keys in my pocket (car was still unlocked), so I asked my wife if she had them. "Why would I have them? You were driving. Stop being a spaz." I had to explain to my wife later that being called a "spaz" is hurtful and she apologized but said she didn't understand because she calls herself a "ditz" or "spaz" all the time. I had to remind her that anytime she does this in earshot of me I make sure to reassure her she's not. And I sur ..read more

Prepare yourselves for the inevitable

Been with a group of moms and girls that are a bit older than my daughter for almost a year now. The kids took my daughter in despite her being 2 years younger than all of them because she towers over them in height so that must mean they’re the same age in their eyes. Well today we just lost almost every friend to school/ day care. Obviously my 2 1/2 year old doesn’t realize this now but man it’s really gonna be a bummer when she wants to hang out with friends during the day like we have been and they aren’t going to be at the park or library waiting for us. Also for myself too. Felt like it ..read more

Hey guys, My daughter is in 3rd grade and is moderately struggling with math and English. (My teenager is one of those kids who doesn't need to study and aces every test, I myself just survived school) . Helping with homework gets frustrating, and that's a downward spiral. I was wondering if you guys know any decent online classes I could register her for? I can't really help with her school work because it doesn't make a lot of sense (common core doesn't seem to teach you how to do math, as much as it finds alternative ways to get the answer), and her school just doesn't seem to be able to h ..read more

Long and complicated story so I’ll try to be concise. I’ve been a fireman for 10 years. Met my wife while she was in med school. She matched into a surgical residency in a neighboring state. I moved with her and commuted back and forth for 2.5 hours each way to support her. We got married and had a kid during her residency. She is just finishing up her 5 year residency in June and matched into a fellowship in another state. We are relocating in July and I’m going to take a leave of absence from work. After her fellowship, the chances of her landing a surgical job in our home state are very lo ..read more

Baby lead weaning

Anyone else think baby lead weaning is stupid? My wife follows these instagram moms that show off feeding solids to their babies. My son is 9 months old right now and every time my wife tries to feed him solids, even when it’s mashed up, he ends up borderline choking and throws up. I prefer to just keep him on purees since it’s easier and less messy also. What do you guys think? I think these ig moms just love to show off submitted by /u/ayzo415 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

My wife and I currently have 6 yo (1st grade) and a 6 month old. I’m noticing the 6 month olds wake times stretching and know we will soon transition from 3 naps to 2. However- I’m at a loss for how to do that given the older child’s schedule. 6 month old wakes between 6:30-7. First nap around 9- 30 minutes. Second nap around 12 for 1.5-2 hours with help. Last nap around 4 for 30 minutes. Bottle and bed around 7. 6 year old in school 8:30-3, except Wednesdays which are 8:30-2. Luckily school is close and I am able to time pickup nearly perfect without having to wait in line for long, usually ..read more

Transitioning to SAHD

So about a month ago my families life was turned upside down when my three month old passed away because of SIDS. As we struggled to find meaning and purpose in this terrible time I started back to work recently and couldnt concentrate on ANYTHING. I've been in corrections for 10 years and honestly make shit money for what I do. My wife is a nurse with her bachelor's and aspiring to get her master's. She makes good enough money honestly we wouldn't miss my paycheck a whole lot. After talking things through with her, my mom, and a few close co workers we (missus and I) decided being a SAHD was ..read more

Transitioning into working again after 3 years?

As the title suggests I’ve been a SAHD for the last three years, did everything for the home while my wife worked and provided ( we agreed on this before the child even came out ) but as I’m sure some of you know one person just can’t support a family of four on anything less than 19026$ an hour lol. So I’ve got an interview today with Lowe’s ( home improvement store for all the non US people ) and I’m so fucking nervous. Before our child came I worked at and managed a Jimmy John’s ( sandwich shop ) for three years. And it’s been 3 years since i started this sahd journey. That’s roughly 6 1/2 ..read more

What tradition do you guys have for Easter?

Hey guys curious what you guys do for Easter? I'm non religious and myself and working on something for the small humans to do every Sunday after the full moon near the spring equinox just so they don't feel left out. This is what I came up with so far. Giant papermache ball filled with ball pit balls and small prizes either themed dinosaurs or aliens. Then I make weapons on level with their ability at the time and let them loose on the eggs. Followed by either dinosaur or alien movie marathon. While I cook up dinner but don't have any dishes in particular yet as I have picky eaters. It's ..read more
