Does anyone know if an Open University degree would be accepted to work in TELF?

I have been looking trough their website and it's quite a good option for me, given my context, attending a "brick" university would be extremly difficult. I am very interested in languages as well as in literature. My dream job would be to become a foreign language teacher abroad, I am not an English native speaker but a Spanish one, although as you can see I've got English pretty much under control. My idea would be to teach either English or Spanish as a foreign language. Would getting a Bachelors of arts Honours in Language Studies get hired? I thought of studying English and Spanish simp ..read more

I want to apply to work in Taiwan in ESL, but many jobs want you to be in the country before accepting applications (Also, I also prefer to apply in person). When is a good time for me to go? Let's say I go at the beginning of July, would that be too late? submitted by /u/Far-Conflict-971 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

hello :) i am interested in getting a TEFL certificate to be able to teach abroad. i don’t necessarily plan on teaching in the UK, but i’m unsure at the moment. my main goal is south asia. i’ve read through the guide, and looked at some of the sites on there, and id like to take a course that has an in-person option available. with that in mind, there’s not too many options for me to choose from unless i travel to like LA or something. i found that the UofA has classes for TEFL/TESOL certifications, however, i see that the in-person option is only 100hrs. per the guide, i read that 120hours m ..read more

Cambodia or Vietnam?

Hi I was hoping some may be able to share some info on these countries. I am going to try and teach in Cambodia, so far the vibe is good and I share a common interest in Buddhism. But I've heard the teaching market is not ideal at the moment and Vietnam is better. Is this true, and does anyone know if Vietnamese people are basically just as friendly despite not being a Buddhist country like Thailand and Cambodia, in your experience. I don't have a bachelors, but I do have a TEFL, some work experience and a 4.7 on Preply. Thanks submitted by /u/youarenotbad [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Shakespeare themed activity ideas

Hi, I am looking for some light, fun interactive activities to do with an advanced teenage ESOL class around the theme of Shakespeare. I've been suggested getting them to take it in turns reading lines from soliliquoy (maybe turning into catch the a bean bag and read thing), but that feels a bit bland. I quite like Akala's Rap or Shakespeare quiz (if you are familiar with that). Does anyone have any ideas or any links to resources? Many thanks in advance! submitted by /u/slicineyeballs [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

As the title says I'm looking for some advice. My wife (F36) and myself (M46) are looking at going to either China (or perhaps Korea) or Europe next year as the job market here in South Africa is pretty much dead. To give some context my current contract ends in December and every EFL job here pays about a fifth of what I am currently making. My wife has only ever been able to get sessional positions. Experience and qualification wise I have a Bachelor's, a PGCE and a CELTA, and have been teaching EFL for about 13 or so years. My wife has a PhD in English Studies, a CELTA, is published and ha ..read more

Question about the intro video

Hi all, I was born and raised in a non-native English speaking country, and then I moved to the UK and got the passport there. I do have an accent and I do sometimes make mistakes while speaking English. I want my future school to know that I am not 100% native UK person, I don't want to be sneaky about this at all. Without hurting my chances of getting hired at schools too much, how should I mention my background? Should I just simply say that I was born and raised in a non-English country? submitted by /u/Horcsogg [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi all! Has anyone here done the online masters in TESOL at Southeast Missouri State University? Ive ben researching the program, and am really interested, but also skeptical. I noticed that the only thing that you need to apply is a 2.5 undergraduate degree. For context, I also have an unrelated bachelors degree. This doesn't seem like a lot for a masters program. I wanted to hear someone's thoughts and opinions on the program. Here are a few questions I have! What did you think of the program? How many hours a week did you spend on coursework? What did you do after your masters degree? Was ..read more
