Creativity with Space
Midwest Power Yoga | Thoughts from the yoga mat

“I’m here as a guide. Take what space you need. If a pose feels really good, don’t be afraid to stay. If you want to take savasana for the whole class, feel free, we’ll find you in the end. Go where your body is asking you to be. Listen to your intuition.”  How many of you have heard this before? How many of you heard this and thought, “That’s a little weird?” How many of you have heard this and thought, “Sure. Okay. Sounds great,” and then felt too uncomfortable to really leave the sequence being called by the teacher? Don’t worry you are not alone. I, personally, have said on multiple o ..read more

Expecting In Me

We’ve all seen it. You log onto almost any Westernized yoga website, yoga social media account, or yoga retailer and you see this uber fit yogi, performing some immaculate, body-breaking posture that looks… (I mean let’s not lie about it) AMAZING! If you are like me, for a minute you are very impressed with this person’s capabilities and think, “Yes! Get it yogi!”  Then, after the minute passes (again if you are like me), the feeling of being impressed is replaced by annoyance and discouragement. You look at the picture and you think, “Yeah freaking right! There is no way in … (insert wha ..read more

You know that feeling when you are in your favorite yoga class, you’ve gotten a good flow going, and you’re just living on that energy high? You feel amazing and you tell yourself you are ready for anything. Then, just as you are reveling in that sweet spot, you hear the teacher’s voice call for dun… dun… dun…“chair pose.” And there goes the happy bubble. Let’s not lie, we’ve all been there. We tell ourselves we don’t hate chair pose, we know it’s good for us, but as soon as we start to feel that fire in our thighs, that scream in our core, we think to ourselves what if we just don’t participa ..read more

Yoga heals

I remember when I knew I NEEDED yoga. Not in that needy way that you NEED some chocolate. But needed it in a way that could help me help myself. Yoga helped me breathe again. Breathe deeper and fuller. Breathe in a healing and full-filling way. In a way that allowed me to calm down and step out of this cycle of fear I was living in. It was a seemingly normal day. I walked into yoga, moved through class and laid down for savasana and cried. Tears of relief and release. When I sat up and the class closed I felt so much ..read more

I made myself a promise to blog as often as I can throughout 2020. Ideally everyday, but let’s be honest - that’s a TALL order for anyone to complete! But, here I am on day 2 SHOWING UP. Showing up is something that is talked about a ton in the yoga world. But, what does it mean? How can I (you) show up and show up in a way that’s meaningful? You’re in charge of YOUR WELLNESS! To me, showing up means I’m keeping good on all of my things that are on my to-do list. Tea ..read more

Hello!! Happy 2020 - can you believe that it’s the beginning of the year - AGAIN?! I honestly can’t wrap my head around how quickly time seems to pass. And really, time itself is neutral. We all get the same 24 hours (1440 minutes or 86,400 seconds) in a day. What really matters is how you choose to spend it. My New Year’s “resolution” is to spend time being more present and more intentionally so that I can give my best self in each situation. I also plan to be on the blog here for MPY a bit more. I want to bring YOU more content! I’ve got yoga, wellness, and a bunch of other goodies! But I ..read more
