Been working on a medical research paper and needed some thoughts on it. A ptn was admitted to the hospital with complaints of diffuse abdominal pain, fever, nause, and generalized weakness. 10 days earlier he underwent laprascopic Toupet Fundoplication (in another hospital) due to hiatal hernia and gerd. Physical examination revealed abdominal tenderness and positive rebound symptom. Blood analysis showed high levels of CRP normal WBCs and neutrophils. Abdominal CT revealed free fluid in abdomen. Shortly that day, ptn. was taken for a laprascopic procedure due to diffuse peritonitis. Laparas ..read more

Hi everyone, so I got my RISE result and it is not great. My percentile is 30 which is below the average and mostly lowest in my class. it was 25 in first year. Some areas dropped or same as last year. Is this the wright way to interpret the score and percentile? Attendings like my work and my report. They tell me I progress well in residency . I did not have any bad evaluation, so far. But with the exam result I do not know! May be I do not read enough or do not memorize enough. Any advice is appreciated, how many studying are enough?! Should I read , do qbanks, see more images or slides? s ..read more

Please I humbly need your opinion on this RISE score of my friend he is not understanding the implications of 10% total score. He feels so sad as it could mean he is the lowest in his class. He is PGY-1

Should I email a program who hasn’t responded to my VSLO application?

Hi all! I’m headed into my 4th year of med school and have submitted my application to my ideal program’s Sub-I on VSLO and haven’t gotten a response in weeks. I am thinking of drafting up an email to the program, reiterating my interest and following up on the status of my application. Will programs find this kinda thing to be annoying? Or is it ok to do something like this? Any advice would be appreciated! submitted by /u/berknstock [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Yes, dual applying is bad... but what if it's clear the other is a backup?

So, I am a first-generation physician (not to mention only the second in my known family history to get a bachelor's) and I was bit by bad advise last year regarding dual applying to pathology. This coming year, I do not intend to make the same mistake. I do have a question though. Obviously, applying to two highly-desired fields is a no-no (rads + path, ortho + path...). But what if the other was clearly a backup? I have a red flag that I'm concerned about, and while I would 1000% prefer path, I'd also prefer not SOAPing. So I have considered throwing in a handful of local family medicine ap ..read more
