There was a post about how often we as dads see our friends. FAR too many of the comments were about having no friends at all, and that just... Doesn't sit well with me. We are social creatures. We need to have bonds with others, share food, share laughs, stories, hardships etc. We NEED this. It breaks my heart seeing so many dads without friends and without a social life. I wanted to chime in to say that you should absolutely prioritize some sort of social aspect in your life. Talk to your wife, make a plan, make it happen. It can (absolutely will imo) make your relationship better. It ..read more

Hi Dads, We are expecting our first child, and due date is in ~3 months. Pregnancy is going well so far, but we have been overworked during the past few weeks, and our free time is always occupied with either planning birth-related stuff or various friends/family event. So I'm looking for pregnancy-compatible date ideas so we can spend some quality time together, focus on us and just forget the rat race for a couple hours. We live in a rather big city, so we have many options, it's just that restaurants & museum don't feel special haha. Anyway, if you have any suggestion, please let me kn ..read more

Keeping a child with asthma ‘active’

Hi Daddit Long time reader, sometime commenter, first time poster. TL/DR: asking for advice on how to make sure your asthmatic child stays active and has a good relationship with physical activity. My daughter (4y/o) has just been prescribed an inhaler following a weeks long debilitating cough that happens at night (all night) and when she exerts herself. She’s too young to do the full range of asthma tests so the doctors opinion is to give her the inhaler for 4 weeks and see if it resolves it, then see if it returns when we stop using it. I had asthma as a child and it had a big impact on my ..read more

PSA Kettlebells are the most dad friendly workout routine

So before I became a dad I used to love going to the gym. I loved doing heavy squats and barbell exercises, I loved running on the treadmill and feeling exhausted afterwords. It was a big part of my self care and mental health maintenance. Since becoming a dad years ago my wife and I have both tried to figure out how to get back in the gym and we just haven’t figured out how to carve out the hours in the week for me to drive to the gym, workout, and drive home, several times a week. It just feels unrealistic for this stage of our lives. I had tried getting some dumbbells and working out at ho ..read more

What're the Best Reasons to be a Dad?

I'm going to try and keep it short. I have considered myself childfree for a very long time. But, there is a particular person that is unlike anyone else I have ever met. A person who I want as my partner. She wants kids though. So, I am very legitimately and very sincerely challenging my beliefs and perceptions to decide if having children could be for me. Please, tell me what the best aspects of being a dad are, in your opinion. Tell me why I should be a dad. Your thoughts will go into my list of things to meditate on. I don't really need help with seeing how it would be challenging. Just b ..read more

This morning started out like any other day. Then I found out that the kids' bus was running late so I'd have to drive them. Instantly behind for the day. FML. Rushed to get ready and out the door on time, dropped my littles off at school and got to work on time. In my haste, I forgot my lunch at home, but I don't live far, so I came home for lunch. I wasn't prepared for what I saw when I opened the fridge. My littles love it when I make them Italian sodas, and I've been teaching them about ratios. Well they secretly made me one this morning while I was getting ready to go, and it was pe ..read more

Oh man what a day, it’s been like 10 hours since my firstborn shot out of my partner and I’m still shaking. Me and my partner have been prepared for days now and she lost her mucus plug yesterday morning, been in between night shifts at hospital and had to head back to bed for the following night, woke up to my Mrs distressed on the phone saying she was in labour so I packed bags and got us out the door. We live down a snicket to a small square of house so it’s about a 20 meter walk to the car… did not make it and that baby wanted the fuck out. I freaked the fuck out when my partner pulled he ..read more

Make time for your hobbies

One of the best things my partner and I do: Give each other time for our hobbies. One of us will take point with the kid, the other will go off and do their thing. I feel like so many posts and comments here make it clear that this isn't a common practice. I'm tremendously grateful for it, and encourage it whenever possible. submitted by /u/AlexJamesFitz [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
