Beige, Paris: The best kind of multi-brand shop Monday, May 6th 2024Tags: Bags Casual clothing Coats Glasses and jewellery Knitwear Shoes beige Brady Bunney heimat Share Share this post Subscribe 37 Comments ||- Begin Content -|| A lot of music fans don’t see the point of covers albums. They want the originals, not a bunch of copies. But I’ve always liked them, whether it’s Johnny Cash’s American IV or Rage Against The Machine’s Renegades, because they’re original and reveal things about the artist. The songs they decide to cover, the way they sequence them on the al ..read more

His style is eclectic: classic menswear brands alongside contemporary fashion, bursts of colour with subdued tones. Yet somehow he always finds a way to put them together and make it look effortless. Niyi describes it as “sartorial chaos” and for him that’s a badge of honour ..read more

Bespoke loafers with Seiji McCarthy: Commissioning and fitting  Friday, December 15th 2023Tags: Shoes Seiji McCarthy Share Share this post Subscribe 14 Comments ||- Begin Content -|| In Japan earlier this year I started the process of commissioning a pair of bespoke loafers from Seiji McCarthy.  Loafers are often tricky to make bespoke, and bespoke as a whole I’ve found a little inconsistent, so why did I take this leap with Seiji?  Largely it was because he offers something different - a particular love of American footwear such as that made popular ..read more

Earlier this month I visited Seoul, to see some of the tailors I had been intrigued by but mostly seen from afar, and to visit some of the shops and brands. My impression was of a dynamic city – new development, new retail, every shop with a distinctive concept and branding. There seemed to be an independent coffee spot on every block, each with a fully-fledged identity, complete with period furniture and branded stickers. Comparisons with Japan are probably inevitable – especially for a westerner – and Seoul felt newer, more tech-savvy, more open. It’s said Tokyo feels like the city o ..read more

Roberto Ugolini bespoke boots: Review Wednesday, November 22nd 2023Tags: Shoes Roberto Ugolini Share Share this post Subscribe 11 Comments ||- Begin Content -|| I recently had these boots made bespoke by Roberto Ugolini in Florence, and they have turned out very well. I have two reflections about bespoke shoes off the back of them. One is that I am increasingly specific about what I need in terms of fit, and it seems to be paying off.  I make it very clear that I only get pain with shoes in two places. One is the outer edges of my toes (little toe joint, little ..read more

Here's a summary of three I've tried recently, which for various reasons I didn't wear, sold or returned. Feel free to ask about others, and if you want ..read more
