The Abacus Club was established in May 2011 by Dr. Nisih Freeman. It started following a visit to Indonesia where she saw primary school children computing sums mentally at great speed. She is currently looking at how the abacus might help children learn place value differently and how this might impact on their numerical abilities.

Completed another round of abacus sessions for elderly as part of Dementia Prevention Project sponsored by Nottinghamshire County Council. We are looking for teaching assistants to help with the running of after school maths clubs using the Japanese abacus in Leicester. Knowledge of how to use the abacus is not necessary as training will be provided.Qualification requirement:NVQ level 3 or aboveHours: After school hours from 3 to 6 pm depending on days of the week.
