Gentle Food is by Weight NOT by Volume

Feed the dog NOT the bowl Feeding example Puppy 55kg = approx 1.25g per day Young dog 10kg = approx 180g-200g per day Adult dog 10kg = approx 100g-120g per day Senior dog 10kg = approx 80g-90g per day Signs of overfeeding Loose stools, excessive drinking and restless behaviour. Solution Just reduce the amount you feed and the improvement will be immediate. If your dog appears still to be hungry try mixing vegetables with the food as this will add volume. Also, the use of a slow feeder can be helpful and turns feeding time into more fun. It’s not just dogs that need to be gentle with food ..read more

Eat like the Romans do

Should we be eating like the Romans or the Greeks? The former had only one meal a day, around midday and the latter, three meals a day, bread soaked in wine for breakfast, a light lunch, and finally a nourishing supper. The experts are on it Scientists are studying a variety of issues such as how many meals per day is good for you and how long you should go without food in any 24-hour period. Emily Manoogian, clinical researcher at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in California, and author of a 2019 paper entitled When to eat suggests that going without food for at least 12 hours a da ..read more

Waging war on bad science

In 2011, Brian Nosek, a psychologist from the University of Virginia, persuaded 270 of his peers to repeat 100 published psychological experiments to see if they could get the same results a second time around. This initiative, the Reproducibility Project, was the first large systematic attempt to answer the question that has been perplexing psychologists for years: what proportion of results in their field are reliable? Nosek was concerned that science had a tendency towards generating, novel, attention grabbing, but often unreliable findings. The incentives to produce&nbs ..read more

Is modern life rubbish? Previously I blogged on the wrong fuel. Here I write of too much fuel prompted by a recurring street scene of litter bins overwhelmed by inadequate capacity. Litter bins first appeared on the streets of Britain in the 1950s, but not because litter was a new problem, as litter has always been a part of human activity. However, the midden (an old dump for domestic waste which may consist of animal bone, human excrement, botanical material, mollusc shells, potsherds, and other artifacts and ecofacts associated with past human occupation) of the middle ages is no longer su ..read more

The wrong trousers or the wrong fuel?

Rupert attempts to fuel the car with a baguette. Spring was in the air and my thoughts were elsewhere when I put 17 litres of diesel into my petrol tank. I didn’t discover that there was any problem till I was halfway to Deal. I attributed the juddering of the car to external conditions: it was raining heavily and traffic was bad. I made my destination in the dark and wet but it wasn’t until the next morning – when I attempted to start the car – that the only thing that issued from the car were dense clouds of smoke from the tailpipe. The wrong fuel I looked at my receipt from the service sta ..read more

I was recommended the Photobiomodulation Studio by a friend of mine whose son had used the therapy to heal his gut. My 13-year-old son also had a course of treatment and still continues to have monthly sessions (see Viggo’s testimony below). After seeing the benefits that my son received, in particular, from the NovoTHOR Wholebody Lightpod, I too began having sessions. Thankfully I don’t have any medical needs at the moment but having researched Photobiomodulation Therapy and learnt about some of the benefits that it has on mitochondria (our cell’s batteries), cell oxygenation and collagen pro ..read more

The wonderful result is that now I am able to train much harder

I started seeing Rupert because of injuries sustained during rowing and training. I also had bad hip and knee joints as well as blocked sinuses. Using his unparalleled expertise and that clever skin conduction probe – which determined the location of the injuries – he soon discovered the roots of all of these various problems. Then employing his array of infrared laser devices he quickly reduced the inflammation and thus promoted rapid healing. The wonderful result is that now I am able to train much harder. I can’t recommend Rupert highly enough – he can treat any typ ..read more

Seb Newman (centre) at stroke competing in the Qunitin Head where they came second in a 1-2-3 for Oxford Brookes crews beating both Imperial College London and the University of Limerick along the way. For about two years Seb Newman suffered with a rib injury and had to have multiple MRI scans and examinations, specialist consultant sessions – for both his rib and back, but which found nothing – plus weekly physio sessions. The injury was persistent and prevented Seb from rowing and training to the best of his ability. He needed to find a solution fast as the GB trials were once again looming ..read more
