THE CORE OF THE ISSUE: MINDFUL RUNNING THROUGH THE YEARS
The Sports, Energy, and Consciousness Group
by Josh Crist

By Michael Spino, Ph.D- Co Founder of SEC. Utilizing a mind/body approach to sport had its emergence in the field of sport psychology, and forever since has been a necessary primary element of scrutiny for understanding and possible application of training and playing. Once the awareness of the integration and the knowledge of its existence becomes coach or athlete knowledge it can no longer be completely denied. Some may deny giving mind/body training application a try, but actually do so at their own peril ..read more

SEC and the Omni Athlete Coaches and Athletes: What We are About
The Sports, Energy, and Consciousness Group
by David Meggyesy

Many years ago, I read a phrase about what education really is about. It has stuck with me throughout my life. Education fundamentally involves a change of perception and once that happens we can never go back to our previous perceptions. In other words, education involves a change of view, of ourselves, our relationship with others, and with Life and the Universe itself. Once that shift happens, we can never go back to a narrower or limited view ..read more

Team chemistry trumps Trump
The Sports, Energy, and Consciousness Group
by Dr. Rick Leskowitz

The power of group energies and team cohesion has been on display recently, and we have President Trump to thank. His most recent comments and tweets about racial prejudice, and about certain athletes’ responses, have triggered a massive backlash that speaks volumes about the transformative power of team chemistry. So even though The SEC Group doesn’t usually delve into issues of partisan politics, these unique events merit an SEC-tinged response. Most readers are already familiar with the protest action taken last year by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who watched on bent ..read more

EDGES AND ESSENCE
The Sports, Energy, and Consciousness Group

In his book Everything Belongs, author Richard Rohr writes about the edges and the essence of life; about the circumference and the center, and how we live our lives at the edges, on the circumference of life’s true essence which is love, unity, fullness, wholeness – the same things you experience when you are in the zone. I look at playing in our normal performance state as playing on the edges of the game while playing in our peak performance state, playing in the zone, is playing at the center of the game and experiencing its essence ..read more

SPORT AS SPIRITUAL PRACTICE
The Sports, Energy, and Consciousness Group
by Scott Ford

Through my own experience with playing tennis in the zone, I have found a deeper meaning to sport that goes far beyond the notion of peak performance. Peak performance is always a part of the equation, but more than peak performance, it’s the state of unity with the game that becomes the essence of the practice. Oneness with the game, oneness with contact, that’s why I play tennis nowadays. In that oneness with contact comes a deep sense of moment-to-moment flowing presence as well as a sense of presence with the eternal now moment – the ever-present emptiness in which the game arises, i ..read more

The Sports, Energy, and Consciousness Group

SEC’s founding members are excited to post the recent article on the Mental Aspect of Hockey by long-time hockey player and marketing specialist for ProStockHockey, A.J. Lee. We at SEC are keenly aware of the growing trend of mind/body practices being used in mainstream sports, that now apparently involves a move inside the NHL to provide specific mental-and-emotional training for Hockey players. SEC has begun a movement to provide applied methods under the umbrella of whole person training that transcends the old model of cognitive-based sport psychology, all in an effort to unify the mental ..read more

Body-Mind Unification by Scott Ford
The Sports, Energy, and Consciousness Group
by Scott Ford

We’ve all been told about the importance of body-mind unification to the peak performance experience, but what we haven’t been told is how the body and the mind are actually unified, much less how that unification process works to create a higher level of performance. So while body-mind unification is critical to peak performance, there still remains an equally critical question: how do you do it? How do you unify your body and your mind ..read more

Playing in the zone is considered the Holy Grail of sports. It is also one of sport’s greatest mysteries. The human peak experience manifested on the field of competition. We also call it flow, and it transports us out of our ordinary performance state into the territory of the extraordinary. But what makes the zone so extraordinary? What is it about this mysterious flow state that takes us beyond our normal performance experience ..read more
